Opening of the Folk Cultural Performance Contest of Ethnic Groups in Quang Ngai

The contest takes place from August 1 to 4 with the participation of artisans, artists, and actors from 24 provinces and cities across the country. The opening ceremony of the contest and performance includes activities such as carrying sacred symbols, performing typical national musical instruments or gong ensembles, performing excerpts of rituals, ceremonies, and representative local performances for artistic parades... Units will compete in contents such as: culinary and performing traditional rituals; performing folk songs, folk dances, traditional national musical instruments and performing traditional costumes at the Quang Ngai Provincial Labor Culture House...

Coming to the festival, Mr. Dagout Brice Liem, from Lam Dong province, shared: “Although I have participated in several folk performance programs, each program brings a wonderful feeling. There we meet friends, some familiar friends, some new friends. And more especially, I get to learn the performances of the groups brought to the folk performance competition. This time, Lam Dong group participated with the main melody about gongs performed very specially by 6 artists to express the joy and happiness when coming to the festival”.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the festival, Mr. Nguyen Quoc Huy, Deputy Director of the Department of Grassroots Culture, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism emphasized that with a history of thousands of years of building and defending the country, Vietnam has a treasure trove of tangible and intangible cultural heritage that is extremely rich and diverse, created and passed down by many generations to this day. That treasure trove of cultural heritage is a valuable human resource, an endogenous resource for today's generations to continue to inherit, cultivate, preserve and promote, contributing to socio-economic development, a rich people, a strong country, a fair, democratic and civilized society.

Mr. Nguyen Quoc Huy said: “The whole country currently has thousands of intangible cultural heritages being preserved, many of which have been recognized by UNESCO or listed in the National Intangible Cultural Heritage List. In addition, more and more traditional festivals are being maintained, associated with customs, performing arts, culinary culture and traditional costumes. Many customs of ethnic minorities have been studied and restored to ensure the diversity and richness of regional cultural nuances. Many bright examples in protecting and promoting the value of cultural heritage have been praised and spread in social life, strengthening people's confidence in the cause of protecting and promoting the value of cultural heritage”.

The contest aims to introduce and promote the values ​​of intangible cultural heritage, customs, traditional festivals, folk songs, folk dances, costumes, and cuisine of ethnic groups across the country; affirm the belief of ethnic people in the leadership of the Party and State; arouse the aspiration to develop the country, promote the strength of national solidarity. This is an opportunity for artisans and artists to gather, exchange experiences, collect, discover, explore, and create in artistic work, contributing to preserving and honoring the traditional cultural values ​​of ethnic communities.
