Kinhtedothi - On the morning of January 21, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man attended the opening of the Francophone Parliamentary Cooperation Forum on sustainable agriculture, food security and climate change response.
The event was organized by the Vietnamese National Assembly on the occasion of hosting the Conference of the Executive Board of the Francophone Parliamentary Union (APF).

National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man said that Vietnam identifies agriculture as the pillar of the economy, contributing to improving people's lives, maintaining political stability and social order and safety.
Ensuring food security is one of the components of human security, a prerequisite for ensuring human rights. With positive achievements in the agricultural sector, Vietnam is working with some Francophone African members to effectively implement South-South cooperation and tripartite cooperation.
"Cooperation in this field needs to be further promoted, with the participation of developed countries in the Francophone community. Cooperation in agriculture will contribute to hunger eradication, poverty reduction, ensuring food security, and effectively implementing sustainable development goals in the Francophone community," said the Chairman of the Vietnamese National Assembly.
The Francophone Parliamentary Forum is one of the activities of the Francophone Parliament after the Paris Summit. The Vietnamese National Assembly hopes that through this activity, it will contribute to promoting Francophone cooperation. Accordingly, it will encourage and support cooperation activities in science, technology, innovation, creativity, promoting the digital economy, startups, promoting public-private partnerships; promoting the French language, promoting cultural diversity; and emphasizing the determination of Francophone countries in implementing sustainable development, ensuring harmony between efforts for growth, poverty reduction and environmental protection.
"In that spirit, the Vietnamese National Assembly organizes today's Forum to promote cooperation among countries in the Francophone community to build sustainable agriculture, ensure livelihoods for each household and food security for each country, along with responding to climate change globally." - National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man said.
Today’s forum will be an opportunity for delegates to discuss ideas and actions of Francophone member parliaments to promote sustainable agriculture, ensure food security; and at the same time respond to climate change; parliamentarians will share lessons and good experiences in building policies and laws to develop sustainable agriculture with the goal of ensuring food security, promoting adaptation actions and mitigating climate change.
“A highlight of the Forum is the expected adoption of the Can Tho Declaration on Francophone cooperation in sustainable agriculture, food security and climate change response. I believe that this will be an important result to affirm the important role of Francophone parliaments and the contributions of Francophone parliamentarians in joining hands to address global challenges, promote regional, inter-regional and multi-stakeholder cooperation, and contribute to turning commitments into concrete actions,” the National Assembly Chairman emphasized.
Vietnam is a key member of the Francophone community in the Asia-Pacific region. The Vietnamese National Assembly is proactive and responsible in the Francophone Parliamentary Alliance (APF), through active activities and hosting a number of APF Committee/Network level meetings.
APF highly appreciates Vietnam's pioneering role in the activities of the Francophone Community, the International Organization of La Francophonie and APF in the region.
From January 21-24, 2025, Vietnam will host the APF Executive Board Meeting and the Francophone Parliamentary Cooperation Forum on sustainable agriculture, food security and climate change response in Can Tho city.
