Dustin Cheverier cycled from Vietnam to Thailand and Laos when he was in his early 20s. After that trip, he decided to volunteer in Vietnam and has been there since 2014.

The American guy commented that Vietnam is a destination with many advantages to attract tourists, from cuisine, human culture to natural landscapes. Therefore, he always wants to be able to "contribute to promoting the image of the S-shaped strip of land" through the videos he posts on his personal page.

Not only actively experiencing for himself, Dustin Cheverier also spreads his passion for travel and discovery to his relatives and friends, even though they live in places more than 13,000 km apart.

Most recently, the young blogger also invited his parents from the US to visit Vietnam and spent a lot of time taking them to visit, experience the culture, cuisine and life in the S-shaped land where he has been attached for more than 9 years.

It is known that during the 3 weeks in Vietnam, Dustin's parents were taken by their son to many places, enjoying delicious dishes and famous specialties from all provinces from the South to the North.

In Ho Chi Minh City, where Dustin lives, they also had the opportunity to experience many street foods, which were affordable but equally delicious. One of the dishes that impressed the two American guests the most was banh xeo.

During a recent trip to Vietnam, two Western tourists were taken by their son to eat banh xeo at a local restaurant in District 1, Ho Chi Minh City (Screenshot)

To enjoy this dish, Dustin took his parents to a banh xeo restaurant located in a small alley on Dinh Cong Trang Street, District 1, near Tan Dinh Church. This has been a familiar dining address for locals as well as foreign tourists for many years.

Dustin revealed that he loves Vietnamese pancakes and has eaten them many times, but this was the first time his parents had enjoyed them. Therefore, they felt excited and looked forward to the moment of tasting this famous rustic dish.

While waiting, Western guests can also observe the process of making banh xeo by experienced workers, continuously making the pancakes with decisive and professional movements. In the kitchen, the pancake pans are always on fire, full of ingredients to produce batches of crispy and delicious banh xeo.

To meet the diverse needs and tastes of many diners, this restaurant also serves many different types of banh xeo. Of which, regular banh xeo costs 110,000 VND/serving, special banh xeo costs 180,000 VND (full of filling including pork, large shrimp and egg) and vegetarian banh xeo costs 90,000 VND.

At the restaurant, Dustin ordered a regular banh xeo and a special banh xeo, enough for 3 people to enjoy. He also introduced his parents to the raw vegetables and herbs that go with banh xeo such as mustard greens, lettuce, fish mint, perilla, etc. and instructed them on how to eat it properly like Vietnamese people.

First, take a large cabbage leaf and place it on the outside, then arrange the herbs of your choice and a small piece of banh xeo on top and roll it up. When enjoying, diners dip the spring roll in sweet and sour fish sauce, and add some pickles to reduce the feeling of fullness.

The refreshing taste of green vegetables blends with the rich, fatty taste of banh xeo and a little sweet and sour from the dipping sauce, making everyone who enjoys it continuously exclaim how delicious it is.

“So many flavors combined in one roll that I wanted to add more. It was really delicious,” Dustin’s mom said.

Dustin’s father also expressed his delight at the taste of banh xeo, which they had the opportunity to enjoy for the first time while traveling in Vietnam. The two Western guests kept eating and slowly felt the freshness of this rustic dish.

At the end of the meal, the whole family was satisfied and praised the deliciousness. They also rated the flavor of the special banh xeo as more impressive because it had shrimp, sliced pork belly and eggs.

In addition to banh xeo, at this restaurant, Dustin also invited his parents to try drinks made from lemon such as passion fruit juice, salted lemon juice, and fresh lemon juice. The American blogger admitted that he is "addicted to salted lemon juice and often drinks it while driving." Meanwhile, his parents were also surprised by the strange drink they enjoyed for the first time.

"It's a little salty but then it turns sweet. It's really unique. I don't think you'll find anything like it in America," Dustin's dad said.

It is known that during their time traveling in Vietnam, Dustin's parents were also taken by their son to enjoy many other famous specialties such as pho, broken rice, fried bread, Quang noodles, Hanoi vermicelli with spring rolls, etc. or to taste dishes that make foreigners wary such as balut and durian.
