(Dan Tri) - On the morning of the first day of the Lunar New Year, thousands of people and tourists went to temples and pagodas in Hanoi to pray for peace and a favorable and prosperous new year.
Going to the pagoda on the first day of Tet to pray for luck and peace in the new year has become an indispensable cultural feature in the spiritual life of many Hanoians. On the morning of the first day of Tet, many people set out, bustling to large temples and pagodas such as Tran Quoc Pagoda, Quan Thanh Temple,... In the photo, the entrance to Tran Quoc Pagoda (Tay Ho, Hanoi), people flocked to. Mr. Logan (55 years old) from Canada, visited Tran Quoc Pagoda. He said that the paths in the pagoda were almost full. "My wife and I came to Vietnam for a trip right on the occasion of the traditional New Year. There were a lot of people coming to the pagoda, everyone was in a happy mood, especially there were many women wearing beautiful ao dai. The atmosphere was completely different from the way to celebrate the New Year in Canada", Mr. Logan shared.
People offer incense sticks with prayers and good wishes for their families and themselves. Mr. Nguyen Van Tu's family (in black shirt) from Tay Ho, Hanoi, came to Tran Quoc Pagoda to celebrate the spring festival. "My family enjoyed the spring festival in a joyful and happy atmosphere. The pagoda was crowded with people, including international tourists, but the atmosphere was still solemn. Each person had a wish, but when they came to the temple, they all brought with them a sincere heart," Mr. Tu shared. A group of tourists from China are being introduced by a tour guide to Tran Quoc Pagoda as well as Vietnamese New Year customs.
Quan Thanh Temple also attracts people to worship on the first day of the year. Mr. Bui Duc Vinh's family (Long Bien, Hanoi) went to Quan Thanh temple to pray for a peaceful new year and good health.
The closer to noon, the more crowded the temple and pagoda. Some people choose to buy salt and lighters at the beginning of the year. According to folk beliefs, salt is white, meaning purity, cleanliness and crystallization. Salt also represents the intimacy and passion of love between couples. Therefore, buying salt at the beginning of the year expresses the wish for the whole family to be more united, children and parents to love each other, and husband and wife to be in harmony. People take check-in photos on Thanh Nien Street, on the journey between Quan Thanh Temple and Tran Quoc Pagoda. Thanh Nien Street is bustling, traffic is heavy, there is a slight congestion at noon on the first day of Tet.
