That was the comment of former Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babis in an interview with the Financial Times (UK) published on September 29 and quoted by RT (Russia).
He assessed that even the European Union (EU) and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) member states are currently not in agreement on what to do next in Ukraine. He suggested: “Europe’s main goal should be peace.”
“But let's face it: the US election will decide the war in Ukraine,” said the former leader of the Czech Republic (a NATO member state).
Mr. Babis said that “a victory for Donald Trump will be good for Europe because he promised to end this war immediately.”
The comments came as Mr Babis' ANO party won a landslide victory in recent regional elections.
“Mr Babis’s return could strengthen the illiberal camp in Central Europe led by Hungary’s Viktor Orban and Slovakia’s Robert Fico. This raises alarm bells within the EU and NATO about maintaining unity in helping Ukraine against Russia,” the Financial Times commented.
No one knows for sure when the Russia-Ukraine conflict will end. Recently, Russia changed its nuclear doctrine, in which Russian President Vladimir Putin declared that Russia could use nuclear weapons if it was attacked by conventional missiles.
The decision to change Russia's official nuclear doctrine comes amid ongoing discussions in the US and UK about whether to allow Ukraine to launch conventional Western missiles into Russian territory.
During a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in New York on September 27, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said he had a “very good relationship” with both the Ukrainian leader and Russian President Vladimir Putin. Trump said he could come up with a solution that would be “good for both sides” to resolve the Russia-Ukraine conflict if he wins the November election.
