Reuters quoted Major General Pat Ryder, a Pentagon spokesman, confirming the transfer of the THAAD system to Israel from October 14. He added that US soldiers and additional systems will continue to be sent to the allied country in the coming time.
"The (THAAD) battery will reach full operational capability in the near future, but for security reasons, we will not discuss specific deployment timing," the spokesperson said.
Iran ready to respond 'without limits', US air defense missiles arrive in Israel
On the same day, Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati announced that the country is ready to increase its military presence in the south if the ceasefire agreement is applied.
"We currently have about 4,500 soldiers in southern Lebanon, and we want to increase the number to 7,000 to 11,000," Mikati told AFP.
He said that as soon as the parties reach a ceasefire agreement, the Lebanese army will mobilize units from other parts of the territory to the south.
Two weeks ago, Israel began limited ground operations in the area, and Prime Minister Mikati received information about lightning-fast border incursions from its neighbor.
Mr Mikati also said Beirut airport had increased security and "the government has done everything within its power to prevent any possible cause for an Israeli attack" on Lebanon's only airport.
