(CLO) The Israeli military announced on Monday that it was attacking military targets near the southern Syrian city of Daraa. The incident left two people dead and 19 injured.
"The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) are currently striking military targets in southern Syria, including command centers and locations storing weapons and military vehicles belonging to the former Syrian regime," the Israeli military said in a statement.

Syrian state news agency SANA confirmed the Israeli attack caused civilian casualties, with two people killed and 19 others injured in the suburbs of Daraa city.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said the attack targeted a military base once controlled by former President Bashar al-Assad, but now used by Syria's new government.
Since the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad's regime in December 2024, Israel has stepped up air strikes on Syria and deployed troops to the UN-controlled buffer zone in the Golan Heights.
Even before Mr. Assad fell from power, Israel carried out hundreds of airstrikes in Syria throughout the civil war that has raged since 2011, mainly targeting Syrian government forces and Iran-linked militias.
Israel's continued attacks on military targets in Syria could increase tensions between the two countries, especially as the new government in Damascus is still consolidating power.
