Israeli airstrikes on Beirut have killed 22 people and injured at least 117, Lebanon's Public Health Ministry said.
Videos released by local media and verified by Al Jazeera's fact-checking service show chaotic scenes after Israeli airstrikes on Ras el-Nabaa and al-Nuweiri in Beirut on Thursday.
Fire broke out and smoke billowed from two apartment buildings after the collision. Many residents were forced to leave their apartments in high-rise buildings in the area and gather in the courtyard, as emergency services rushed to the scene.
The area is located on the southern outskirts of the city, where attacks by Israeli forces frequently occur.
Al Jazeera's Dorsa Jabari, reporting from Beirut, said the attack happened "right in the Lebanese capital, where people have been taking refuge for the past few weeks".
This is the third Israeli attack on the capital Beirut since Israel expanded its campaign in Lebanon in late September. Israel previously attacked Kola on September 29 and Bachoura on October 3.
Israel has not commented on the incident, but its military issued an evacuation warning on Thursday night for southern Beirut suburbs, including specific buildings.
Earlier on October 10, Israel warned Lebanese people not to return to their homes in the south of the country.
On Thursday, Lebanon's Hezbollah group said it fired a barrage of rockets at Israeli forces trying to evacuate wounded people from the Naqoura area.
Hezbollah has also previously claimed responsibility for several rocket attacks on northern Israel, saying it had launched at least four salvos of rockets.
On October 10, the Israel Defense Forces admitted that a reservist was killed while fighting Hezbollah in southern Lebanon. This is the 12th Israeli soldier to be killed in the ground campaign against Hezbollah in southern Lebanon and in border operations.
Also on October 10, the Israel Defense Forces said in a statement that its warplanes struck and killed two Hezbollah commanders in southern Lebanon.
According to a separate Israeli military statement, on October 10, Israel carried out more than 110 airstrikes against Hezbollah targets in Lebanon.
Clashes on the Lebanon-Israel border first broke out after the war in the Gaza Strip began, with Hezbollah launching attacks in support of the Palestinian enclave. Israel then escalated its attacks on Lebanon starting on September 17, and on September 27, it assassinated Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah.
On September 30, the Israel Defense Forces officially announced the launch of a limited ground operation against Hezbollah in southern Lebanon.
So far, the confrontation has left 28 civilians and at least 34 Israeli soldiers dead. On the Lebanese side, at least 2,141 people have been killed, including more than 500 members of Hezbollah.
