In order to increase production value; at the same time, bring safe food sources to consumers, many establishments and enterprises in the province have boldly introduced many new varieties into production and applied advanced technological processes in intensive farming such as: production according to hygiene and safety standards (GAP); integrated crop and pest management (ICM, IPM) ...

Models applying new science, technology and high technology are increasingly appearing. The province has clearly formed concentrated and large-scale specialized commodity production areas with 10 key agricultural products including: grain, tea, fruit trees, main livestock, aquatic products, cinnamon, hawthorn, Bat Do bamboo shoots, mulberry, and raw wood. By the end of 2024, the province will have 59 specialty products, key products and tourism services granted intellectual property protection certificates; of which, 10 products have geographical indications; 22 products and services have certified trademarks and 27 collective trademarks.

After being protected, the products help people, businesses and cooperatives enhance the value and brand of the province's key products and specialties, contributing to the development of the local economy. In particular, Yen Bai is one of the five northern provinces selected by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to pilot the issuance of forest planting area codes. The province has focused on promoting product traceability, especially supporting farmers in issuing planting area codes for key crops.

Up to now, the whole province has issued 96 growing area codes with an area of nearly 1,150 hectares; of which, there are 41 growing area codes for export on tea, grapefruit, Aquilaria, cardamom in the districts of Van Chan, Yen Binh, Van Yen, Mu Cang Chai with an area of nearly 875 hectares; 55 growing area codes for domestic consumption on tea, rice, citrus fruit, dragon fruit, tea, vegetables, bananas, turmeric, galangal, mushrooms, medicinal herbs in the districts of Van Yen, Tran Yen, Yen Binh, Van Chan, Luc Yen, Mu Cang Chai, Nghia Lo town and Yen Bai city with an area of over 274 hectares.

According to Mr. Nguyen Xuan Huy - Head of the Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection: "The issuance of a growing area code contributes significantly to creating trust and affirming the reputation of local agricultural products in the domestic and international markets; helping people, businesses, and local managers improve the efficiency of managing the quality of agricultural and forestry products, aiming to expand the scale, improve productivity, quality, and value of products, contributing to the development of the agricultural economy. In particular, the increasing number of agricultural export orders over the years is a clear demonstration of product quality, food safety control, plant quarantine, preliminary processing techniques, packaging, and preservation of agricultural products".

To ensure the quality of agricultural and forestry products, hygiene and food safety, the province also promotes the development of OCOP products and by the end of February, the whole province had 268 products; of which, 25 products achieved 4 stars, 243 products achieved 3 stars. The products are trusted and highly appreciated by consumers.

Ms. Nguyen Thu Lan in Dong Tam ward, Yen Bai city shared: "I am very assured about the quality and food safety of OCOP products. The products: Gioi Phien vermicelli, Mu Cang Chai honey, Suoi Giang tea, Nghia Lo dried meat, hawthorn jam... I buy to send to relatives and friends far away, they really like it."

To continue developing agricultural, forestry and fishery production and processing associated with ensuring food safety, in the coming time, the agricultural sector will continue to coordinate and synchronously implement solutions; in which, focusing on forming specialized concentrated production areas according to good agricultural practices (GAP) standards, applying high technology associated with preservation and processing.

Based on the advantages and specific conditions of the locality to develop specific agricultural products on the basis of selecting crops and livestock with high economic value, applying appropriate production technology, enhancing the application of scientific and technical advances, implementing GAP processes, ensuring food hygiene and safety; continuing to strengthen linkages and build brands for agricultural products, especially agricultural, forestry and fishery products associated with safe production areas, meeting market demand and gradually moving towards export...

At the same time, attract businesses to invest in preservation, preliminary processing, and production-linked processing technologies, associated with the consumption of products in concentrated commodity production areas; apply advanced quality management systems (VietGAP, HACCP, ISO...).
