Panorama of Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.
According to Xinhua News Agency, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi said that the agency's experts discovered anti-personnel mines outside the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.
According to Mr. Grossi, while inspecting the Zaporizhzhia power plant area on July 23, IAEA experts found a number of mines located in the buffer zone between the inner and outer perimeter fences of the plant.
Experts reported that the mine was located in a restricted area that was inaccessible to factory personnel and that no mines were detected inside the factory.
The IAEA chief confirmed: "As I reported earlier, the IAEA is aware of the use of mines outside the area and also at specific locations inside. Our team raised these specific findings with the plant and they were informed that it was a military decision and in a military-controlled area."
According to him, "planting such explosives at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant site is inconsistent with the IAEA's safety standards and nuclear security guidelines."
However, IAEA experts concluded that any explosion from those mines would not affect the nuclear safety and security system of this plant./.
