OCOP investment for key agricultural products
Cooperatives play a key role in improving the quality of agricultural products to become OCOP products. Evidence shows that, among the current 96 OCOP products of 78 entities in Dak Nong, there are 35 products of 28 cooperatives.
Cooperatives focus on exploiting the strengths of key agricultural products, typical of Dak Nong in particular, and the Central Highlands in general, to develop into OCOP products. Among the 35 OCOP products of cooperatives, there are 11 coffee products and 4 pepper products.

Dak Mil Agricultural and Forestry Cooperative, Dak Mil district has 2 products that meet OCOP 3 standards including Dak Mil Robusta specialty ground coffee and Dak Mil Robusta specialty green coffee beans.
Mr. Vo Dinh Danh, Director of Dak Mil Agricultural and Forestry Cooperative shared: “We are realizing the development of specialty coffee areas in Dak Mil. The cooperative is cooperating with households to produce over 30 hectares of specialty coffee."
"The cooperative is implementing "closed" production according to the value chain from garden coffee care to harvesting, applying technology, roasting, processing and preservation machinery to increase the value of OCOP products," said Mr. Danh.
Mr. Bui Hoa Tham, Vice President of Dak Nong Cooperative Union, assessed that the cooperative has invested in production and processing technology. The cooperative applies national and international standards from production, cultivation, harvesting to processing and preservation processes.
"This not only helps improve the quality of coffee products but also reduces environmental pollution and builds reputation in the market," Mr. Tham shared.

Mr. Pham Van Thach, Director of Dak Nong Organic Agriculture Cooperative, Dak R'moan Commune, Gia Nghia City, said that Dak Nong land is favorable for pepper growing.
Grasping the needs of domestic and international markets, the Cooperative has produced organic pepper. Since 2018, the Cooperative's pepper products have met European and American organic standards. Currently, the Cooperative has 12 hectares of pepper that meet the organic standards of this market.
In recent years, Dak Nong Organic Agriculture Cooperative has invested in greenhouses and machinery for drying, packaging and improving product quality.
“In 2023, the cooperative’s NAFA organic pepper products will achieve 3-star OCOP. Since achieving OCOP, the cooperative members have been excited, and increased consumer confidence in the product has become the driving force for us to produce organically,” Mr. Thach shared.

Organic pepper is sold by the cooperative at a price 30% higher than regular pepper on the market, increasing profits for farmers. “We continue to invest in machinery to improve product quality, striving to achieve 4-star OCOP,” said Mr. Thach.
Building a brand from 4-star OCOP
Ms. Nguyen Thi Mai, Director of Quang Phu Organic Agriculture and Forestry Cooperative, Krong No district, said that the Cooperative is honored to have 2 products achieving 4-star OCOP status: volcanic oranges and volcanic tangerines.
The unique nutritional values from volcanic lava combined with organic farming processes have created a distinct flavor for oranges and tangerines grown on the rocky soil of Krong No compared to many other regions.

Over the years, the cooperative has grown 20 hectares of oranges and tangerines grown in the land of Nam Kar volcano, supplying the market with about 200 tons of fruit each year. The cooperative mainly supplies fresh fruit to supermarkets, food stores, and clean agricultural products in the country.
“To diversify products and improve quality, the cooperative has invested in processing and drying oranges and tangerines. We are expanding our scale and applying deep processing techniques to create more products and increase the value of OCOP,” Ms. Mai informed.

Thanks to the special incentives from the volcanic land, the product branded Krong No volcanic avocado of the Krong No Volcanic Avocado Agricultural Service Cooperative has affirmed its reputation from the 4-star OCOP.
Of the 18 products that currently achieve 4-star OCOP status in Dak Nong, cooperatives have 4 products. All 4-star products of cooperatives are fruits and are affirming their reputation in terms of production organization, cultivation techniques, and product quality in the market.
Krong No district is promoting the value of OCOP products on this land associated with the volcano brand, associated with Dak Nong UNESCO Global Geopark and tourism development. OCOP products are selected by Krong No district as local tourism products.

At R'But hamlet, Quang Son commune, a remote commune of Dak Glong district, Sangs Farm Agricultural - Trade - Service Cooperative has built a 10-hectare green-skinned grapefruit garden that meets 4-star OCOP standards.
Mr. Ngo Xuan Hieu, a member of Sangs Farm Agricultural - Trade - Service Cooperative, shared that on this land, people mainly grow coffee and pepper.
However, the cooperative realized that the domestic and international fruit market had great potential, so it chose green-skinned grapefruit trees for development. In fact, grapefruit trees grow well on Quang Son land with a business period yield of 100 tons/year, earning about 1.5 billion VND.
Contribute to promoting agricultural and rural development
The OCOP program brings a lot of useful knowledge, changing the production and business thinking of cooperatives and members. OCOP has created conditions for people and cooperatives to participate more deeply in agricultural processing, connecting and promoting trade effectively.

Mr. Tran Dinh Luong, Director of Nam Ha Agricultural and Forestry Cooperative, Ea T'ling Town, Cu Jut District, shared: “Initially, the Cooperative only cooperated with farmers growing gac fruit. However, the more we developed, the more products we created from gac fruit. Up to now, the Cooperative has products such as gac membrane, gac powder, gac essential oil and gac vermicelli. Our natural gac vermicelli meets OCOP standards and is increasingly affirming its brand in the market.”
Nam Ha Cooperative has invested nearly 1 billion VND to build machinery lines, processing factories, drying greenhouses, etc. to increase capacity and meet market demand.
Currently, the cooperative supplies about 150 tons of gac vermicelli to the domestic market each year. The cooperative cooperates with about 200 households to grow 100 hectares of gac and process the product, creating jobs for about 200 workers.

Mr. Bui Hoa Tham, Vice President of Dak Nong Cooperative Union, assessed that in recent years, Dak Nong has always paid attention to and created conditions for cooperatives to build and form OCOP products.
Localities create favorable conditions to support cooperatives in terms of technical processes for cultivation, access to capital, and procedures for OCOP certification. Cooperatives with OCOP products are creating jobs for many local workers.
Dak Nong promotes support for processing machinery, promotion, and connection to consume OCOP products. The Cooperative Union and districts and cities always encourage OCOP entities to strive to improve product quality, design, and develop along the value chain.
Thanks to the efforts and creativity of cooperatives, Dak Nong is gradually affirming its position in the agricultural market, with high-quality OCOP products.
