Happy to go to the field
At Au Viet Farm Cooperative (Kim Thanh), from early morning on February 1 (January 4), Director Bui Van Duy was present in the fields with the people to harvest tomatoes, pumpkins, bell peppers, cucumbers, etc. During Tet, the weather was favorable so the crops grew well, the fruits ripened, and had to be harvested promptly to maintain the quality of agricultural products. According to Mr. Duy, after Tet, consumers used more vegetables, so the selling price was higher.
Carrying the echoes of Tet, the members happily go to the fields. They are mostly elderly, idle farmers hired to work seasonally.
Mr. Duy shared: “Storm No. 3 completely collapsed 27,000 m² of the cooperative's greenhouse, causing nearly 10 billion VND in damage. Doing agriculture cannot avoid natural disasters. The important thing is that after each difficulty, we still persevere to rebuild. Up to now, the cooperative has rebuilt 14,000 m² of greenhouse and will continue to expand in the coming time."
Here, melon products have achieved 3-star OCOP certification, while other agricultural products all meet VietGAP standards, opening up great opportunities to access demanding markets.
The bustling atmosphere also filled the carrot fields of Duc Chinh Agricultural Service Cooperative (Cam Giang) in the first days of the new year. Many households started harvesting carrots on the third day of Tet.
Compared to many years, this year the carrot season is 1 month later, but favorable weather helps to achieve high yields and better quality roots.
Ms. Tran Thi Ngan, a farmer in Yen Vu village, happily shared: “This year the weather is nice, there is no spring rain so the harvest is much easier. The carrots are in good season, the roots are beautiful, bright in color, and less cracked than previous years. It is just a pity that the price at the beginning of the season is still low, but hopefully the price will increase in the near future.”
Duc Chinh Cooperative has 360 hectares of carrots, of which 90 hectares meet VietGAP standards. This year, the total output is estimated at 25,000 tons, an increase of about 5,000 tons compared to last year. 80% of the cooperative's carrot output is exported, mainly to Korea, Malaysia and Cambodia, helping farmers feel secure about the output.
According to Mr. Pham Gia Vu, Director of the Agricultural Service Cooperative of Le Loi Commune (Gia Loc), since the third day of Tet, members have been urgently harvesting vegetables such as cauliflower, cabbage, kohlrabi, cucumber, etc. This is the time when green vegetables have high prices and are consumed quickly due to high demand after the Tet holiday.
The cooperative currently has nearly 300 hectares of vegetables, with harvest lasting until the end of Qingming Festival. The average income is expected to reach 177 million VND/ha, equal to previous years.
New Hope
In 2024, natural disasters caused many difficulties for cooperatives, especially storm No. 3 in September 2024.
However, overcoming difficulties, agricultural cooperatives in the province have gradually recovered and are ready to enter the new production season with high expectations.
The fertile fields of the first day of the new year not only symbolize prosperity but also affirm the stability of Hai Duong agriculture in the journey of sustainable development.
Spring not only brings warm weather but also opens up new opportunities for Hai Duong agriculture. From vegetable growing areas to carrot fields, from high-tech melon gardens to sustainable cooperative models, everything is changing strongly.
Chairwoman of the Hai Duong Province Cooperative Union Nguyen Thi Thu Huong said that the province currently has 530 cooperatives, of which 372 are operating in the agricultural sector. At this time, most cooperatives are focusing on the new crop season. With proactiveness, enthusiastic working spirit and application of new science and technology, cooperatives are focusing on production with high determination to bring about prosperous golden seasons and contribute to the strong development of Hai Duong agricultural products.
