Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Van Phuc speaks at the conference
On September 26, in Hai Phong, the Ministry of Education and Training held a conference on foreign investment cooperation in education in 2024. Attending the conference were over 300 delegates from the Ministry of Education and Training, localities, foreign diplomatic organizations/representative agencies in Vietnam, educational organizations, investors, domestic and foreign universities, and educational representative offices in Vietnam.
Speaking at the opening of the conference, Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Van Phuc emphasized that international cooperation in education and training has always been identified as one of the key tasks and solutions to innovate and improve the quality of university education, contributing to improving the quality of human resources to meet the requirements of socio-economic development and international integration.
In nearly 40 years of national innovation and development, especially in the last 10 years, international cooperation activities in the field of education and training have achieved remarkable achievements, contributing significantly to enhancing the prestige and position of Vietnamese education in the international arena, improving the quality of human resources, promoting international understanding, people-to-people diplomacy and serving as a foundation for other cooperation activities.
As of June 30, 2024, Vietnam has attracted 605 foreign investment projects in the education sector with a total investment capital of over 4.57 billion USD; about 430 joint training programs with foreign partners are implemented at 65 domestic universities; there are 5 foreign-invested universities operating in Vietnam.
Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Phuc also emphasized three strategic priorities in attracting foreign cooperation and investment in Vietnam's education, which are: Attracting prestigious foreign universities to establish branches in Vietnam; promoting cooperation between Vietnamese universities and prestigious foreign universities; enhancing student exchanges and attracting international students to study in Vietnam.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Minh, Deputy Director of the Department of International Cooperation, said that currently, there are nearly 22,000 foreign students studying in Vietnam, the highest number in the past 9 years. Vietnamese universities actively attract and create the best learning conditions for foreign students. Student exchanges help promote cultural and academic exchanges and contribute to strengthening solidarity and friendship with other countries and international integration.
At the conference, foreign partners gave their opinions, suggestions and recommendations on cooperation and investment opportunities in the field of education and training. Ms. Donna McGowan, Director of the British Council in Vietnam, said that it is necessary to have an effective policy framework, creating a constructive environment to encourage international interactions, bringing positive experiences, so that students, teachers, managers and investors feel suitable. At the same time, to become a global destination, many factors need to be prepared such as appropriate approaches, effective and uniform policies nationwide.
