The British Consulate General and the Ho Chi Minh City Digital Transformation Center signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the fields of science, technology and innovation.
The two sides aim to create the foundation and favorable conditions to enhance cooperation in science, technology and innovation on the basis of equality and mutual benefit, supporting the research and innovation capacity of the City and the whole country, towards sustainable growth.
Through this, the two sides encourage cooperation in research and innovation among government policy makers, government agencies, research organizations, higher education, and businesses to support the digital transformation process and promote innovation in Ho Chi Minh City.
The two sides will support research and innovation based on scientific advances, from core research to applications in science, technology and engineering. Priority areas of cooperation include: Digital transformation; smart city technology; financial technology (fintech); transformational technology (such as artificial intelligence, robotics and automation, nanotechnology, cybersecurity); health care technology (healthtech).

Both sides recognised the importance of Resolution 57-NQ/TW dated 22 December 2024 of the Politburo on breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation; emphasised the need for international cooperation in science, technology, innovation and digital transformation. The MoU also supports the objectives of Resolution 57-NQ/TW by promoting collaborative efforts between the UK and Vietnam in the above areas.
Mr. Iain Frew, British Ambassador to Vietnam, said: The MoU marks a significant step forward in strengthening the partnership between the UK and Ho Chi Minh City in the digital and technology sector. By promoting deeper cooperation in digital transformation, the two sides are paving the way for new opportunities to promote economic growth and technological advancement.
Vice Chairwoman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Tran Thi Dieu Thuy said that the City appreciates the attention and support of UK agencies in digital transformation initiatives such as sharing experiences in developing smart cities, providing technical support in building the City Data Strategy, and coordinating the training of high-quality human resources in the field of science and technology.
The Technology Week is an opportunity to connect the Vietnamese and British investor, expert and business communities, together creating breakthrough solutions for a comprehensive and sustainable digital future. The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the City Digital Transformation Center and the British Consulate General is a concrete example affirming Ho Chi Minh City's determination to promote extensive cooperation with the UK in the global digital transformation trend. The Technology Week taking place on March 27-28 is a leading event dedicated to promoting digital innovation and strong partnerships between the UK and Southeast Asia, especially Vietnam; marking an important milestone in the process of closer digital transformation cooperation between the two countries.
