Tuition free, credit recognition for students
On the afternoon of March 16, Hanoi National University announced that its outstanding students will have the opportunity to study and experience at least one semester at Tsinghua University (China). According to the 2025 rankings of the Times Higher Education (UK), this university is ranked No. 1 in China and 12th in the world, higher than Peking University (13th), Fudan University (36th) or Zhejiang University (47th).
According to the announcement of Hanoi National University, the program applies to students in their second year or higher at member schools of this university, requiring an IELTS English certificate of 7.0 or higher or Chinese HSK 5 or higher, as well as good academic performance and an international mindset. Regarding benefits, the school said it will waive 100% of tuition fees when studying at Tsinghua University and provide many opportunities to connect with international students and professors.
In addition, students are also recognized for credits accumulated during the exchange period.
If you want to participate in the exchange program in the fall semester, which takes place from September 2025 to January 2026, the application deadline is April 30, 2025. For the spring semester, which lasts from February to June 2026, the application deadline is November 30, 2025. After being admitted, students must cover their own living expenses, insurance, and Chinese student visa; the school only provides consulting and registration guidance.
More cooperation in the future
According to Hanoi National University, this student exchange program is an agreement between the school and Tsinghua University, which was signed on March 2 on the occasion of Tsinghua University leaders' visit to Vietnam. On this occasion, Professor Khuu Dung, Secretary of Tsinghua University's Party Committee, also presented Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh with the title of "Honorary Professor" for many outstanding achievements in socio-economic development and improving people's lives in Vietnam.

Previously, during General Secretary To Lam's visit to China in August 2024, the two schools also signed a memorandum of understanding on comprehensive cooperation, including student exchange; exchange of lecturers and researchers; coordination in organizing seminars and academic conferences; exchange of documents in education, research, publishing and academic information.
Currently, Hanoi National University also creates opportunities for students to exchange at many schools in France (Sciences Po University), Japan (Kyoto University, Waseda University), Singapore (National University of Singapore)... Meanwhile, Tsinghua University is having a student exchange program with more than 120 universities around the world, lasting from 1-2 semesters and has nearly 300 courses taught entirely in English, according to the school's website.
Earlier this month, in addition to signing a student exchange agreement with Hanoi National University, Tsinghua University also signed a memorandum of understanding with the National Economics University (Hanoi) and Ho Chi Minh City National University. This information was posted prominently on the home page of the world's No. 1 university until now, March 16.
