Tourists come to visit and take souvenir photos at Ho Dynasty Citadel.
The project was built by Ho Quy Ly in 1397, and was considered the capital, cultural - political and social center of Dai Ngu country under the Ho Dynasty. After more than 600 years with many historical events, the citadel still retains its value and was recognized by UNESCO in June 2011.
UNESCO's recognition of the Ho Dynasty Citadel as a World Cultural Heritage (WCH) has affirmed the integrity, authenticity and outstanding global value of this heritage. This is not only the pride of the Party Committee, government and people of all ethnic groups in Thanh Hoa province in particular, but also the pride of the country in the flow of history and culture of the nation.
With its functions, the Ho Dynasty Citadel Heritage Conservation Center has implemented a series of strategic tasks contributing to the effective implementation of the Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee's commitments to UNESCO, preserving the integrity, authenticity and outstanding global value of the heritage. Along with that, tourism activities have also been actively innovated, diversified and developed by the center, making an important contribution to the socio -economic development of the province.
After 14 years of Thanh Nha Ho being recognized as a World Cultural Heritage, many attractive tourism products have been and are being deployed in the heritage area. Currently, the center has put into operation the exhibition of "Western Capital agricultural cultural space", with the purpose of displaying and introducing to the public, especially the young generation, a better understanding of traditional farming tools, the simple and honest life, the industrious and creative spirit of farmers, containing the simple and pure cultural activities of people and villages in Vietnam, contributing to preserving the values of the material and spiritual cultural heritage, the quintessence of our ancestors.
In addition to the additional exhibition room of relics and artifacts related to the Ho Dynasty, the excavation and archaeology in the inner city area of the Ho Dynasty Citadel have achieved many important results, contributing to demonstrating the outstanding global value of the World Cultural Heritage. The artifacts collected from the excavation and archaeology have themselves told the cultural stories of many successive dynasties in the history of the existence and development of the Tay Do citadel. To continue and promote the unchanging values from the excavated artifacts, and at the same time bring those values closer to the community and the public, the Ho Dynasty Citadel Heritage Conservation Center has put into operation the "outdoor artifact display space", displaying "models of cannons and reforms of the Ho Dynasty", "Space for displaying Ho Dynasty Citadel, history, legends and archaeology", and exploiting the "space for displaying stone for the citadel" as a new check-in point at the South Gate. Organizing heritage education programs for students in Vinh Loc district to promote propaganda activities, education on traditions and history of the nation, promote positivity, dynamism, creativity in school youth through healthy learning and playing activities, contributing to orienting a beautiful lifestyle, awareness of respect, preservation and promotion of cultural identity values of the locality, homeland and country.
Especially when visiting the Ho Dynasty Citadel Heritage, visitors can choose new sightseeing routes by electric car service. The Center has been including the adjacent relics in the buffer zone in the tour program at the heritage by building 4 sightseeing routes: Ho Dynasty Citadel - to the heritage area; Ho Dynasty Citadel - traditional villages; Ho Dynasty Citadel - the spirituality of the buffer zone; Ho Dynasty Citadel - relics and landscapes of the buffer zone. Because this is the area containing all the cultural elements, contributing to the completeness of a citadel, with religious works, temples, traditional villages, ancient roads, markets, river wharves, historical sites associated with historical stories, wild stories, natural landscapes. From there, visitors have the most intuitive view of the land and people of Tay Do.
In addition, the work of promoting the value of the heritage site to domestic and international friends has been focused on and effectively implemented by Thanh Hoa province and relevant agencies. Every year, the heritage site attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors to visit and sightsee. As of December 2024, this place has welcomed nearly 260,000 visitors, reaching 162.5% of the State's plan for 2024 and 103.7% over the same period in 2023. The target audience is more diverse and abundant, especially international visitors are increasing.
With the goal of developing World Heritage Tourism of Ho Dynasty Citadel in a sustainable manner, making an important contribution to the "smokeless industry" of the province, Ho Dynasty Citadel has been effectively implementing projects to exploit and develop World Heritage Tourism of Ho Dynasty Citadel of Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee. At the same time, improving service quality, focusing on developing typical tourism types with inherent strengths such as traditional festivals; community tourism; strengthening intra-provincial linkages, creating tourist routes connecting destinations in the province. Promoting heritage education programs, turning Ho Dynasty Citadel Heritage Site into a place for sightseeing, studying, researching and educating patriotic traditions for future generations. Coordinating with Vinh Loc District People's Committee, Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, departments and branches to organize training courses for those participating in tourism service businesses and people in the heritage area. Exploiting traditional arts and craft villages to serve tourism combined with organizing activities to promote and advertise domestic and international tourism. Therefore, UNESCO has highly appreciated the work of heritage conservation at its annual meetings. Local communities and visitors have also evaluated and responded positively to the innovative activities at the heritage.
That is the premise and important motivation for Thanh Nha Ho to continue creating many new, more diverse tourism products to meet the increasing needs of tourists in the new period.
