Press Conference Discussion on the prospects of Vietnam - Laos press and media cooperation

The scientific seminar will consist of two parts. Part 1 includes 7 presentations. In which, speakers from units under the Ministry of Information and Communications of Vietnam, in addition to sharing practical experiences in the process of implementing digital transformation in the field of journalism and handling fake news, also introduced "Vietnam.vn - a typical example of applying technology in foreign information".

In addition, representatives from the Multimedia Communications Corporation (VTC) provided useful information on supporting social management through information and communication tools. Speakers from the Lao Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism informed about the results of Vietnam-Laos cooperation in journalism and communication training and the "Challenges of Lao information and communication in the current context".

Regarding the digital transformation of the press in Vietnam, the aim is to build press agencies in a professional, humane, and modern direction; to fulfill the mission of information and propaganda to serve the revolutionary cause of the Party and the cause of national innovation. According to the assessment of the Ministry of Information and Communications, the Vietnamese press has been gradually developing to suit the trends of technology, information and communication, while closely combining many types and means and increasing coverage both domestically and internationally, gradually meeting the requirements and tasks of information and communication in the new situation.

The second part of the discussion revolved around the prospects for Vietnam-Laos cooperation in the field of information and communication. Through the perspectives of experts, managers of the two countries and exchanges with delegates, guests and speakers, it provided more useful information, revealing practical solutions to enhance access to information for people in border areas, so that information and communication play an increasingly important role in promoting trade investment, tourism development, and border economy between border provinces between Vietnam and Laos.

During the seminar, there were also shares about the construction: The Vietnam.vn Vietnam promotion platform is not only aimed at Vietnamese readers in the country, Vietnamese people living and working abroad, but also at a large number of readers around the world who are interested in objective, multi-dimensional information about Vietnam. The system uses Google's automatic translation tool, which will automatically translate all content into six languages: English, French, Russian, German, Korean and Japanese. These languages will be the default when readers access them the next time.

With the mission of digital transformation, this new platform is a solution to improve the ability to provide and disseminate information on the Party and State's policies and laws, on foreign information activities and human rights. Promote the image of the country and Vietnamese people in the process of building and defending the country. Fight against false arguments while affirming Vietnam's sovereignty and territorial integrity, especially for the two archipelagos of Hoang Sa and Truong Sa, as well as a forum for overseas Vietnamese to unite towards the Fatherland.

According to a representative of the Department of Radio, Television and Electronic Information, Ministry of Information and Communications, many people currently consider cyberspace as their second life, creating content that affects the community. At the same time, cross-border social networking platforms are increasingly developing in Vietnam, allowing users to post free content and exploit advertising. This also contributes to the increase in fake news and false information. Cross-border online platforms are where false information spreads very quickly.

At the seminar, many questions were raised such as: how to exploit more effectively the export potential of Vietnam to Laos, so that export activities become more and more vibrant? What measures are needed to promote import and export between the two countries? What role do the press and media play in promoting trade between the two countries? Thua Thien Hue province has a border of more than 80km adjacent to the two provinces of Salavan and Sekong of Laos, and has many border gates with Laos. So, could you tell us how the Department of Information and Communications of the province has coordinated with the functional forces of the province as well as the provinces of Salavan and Sekong of Laos in information exchange?

At the seminar, Lao delegates frankly acknowledged the challenges of Lao information and communication in the current context as well as the results and prospects of cooperation between the two countries in journalism and communication training.

The seminar on the prospects of Vietnam-Laos press and media cooperation with very practical issues related to the press and media of Vietnam and Laos, along with perspectives and useful information, thereby revealing practical solutions to enhance access to information for people in border areas, so that information and communication play an increasingly important role in promoting trade investment, tourism development, and border economy between border provinces between Vietnam and Laos./.
