According to Vietnam Social Security, up to now, of the total 18 million people participating in social insurance, female workers account for about 55%.
Regarding compulsory social insurance, the proportion of female workers participating is about 55.4%. In addition, the proportion of female workers accounts for 59.3% of those who pay voluntary social insurance.
Corresponding to the higher rate of female participation in social insurance compared to male, the rate of female receiving monthly pension and social insurance benefits is also higher. Statistics show that currently, 55.9% of monthly pensioners are female.
Vietnam Social Security said that current social insurance policies and laws basically ensure equality between male and female workers, ensuring social security for all participants.
According to current legal regulations, the monthly pension of female employees who meet the conditions specified in Article 54 of the Law on Social Insurance is calculated at 45% of the average monthly salary subject to social insurance as specified in Article 62 of this Law and corresponding to 15 years of social insurance payment, then for each additional year of social insurance payment, the employee is calculated an additional 2%; the maximum level is 75%.

In case an employee retires early due to reduced working capacity, the salary will be reduced by 2% for each year of retirement before the prescribed age.
In case the retirement age has an odd time up to 6 months, the reduction is 1%, from more than 6 months, the percentage is not reduced due to early retirement.
According to Clause 2, Article 169 of the 2019 Labor Code, the retirement age of employees is adjusted according to a roadmap, specifically: From 2021, the retirement age of female employees in normal working conditions is 55 years and 4 months; then, each year, it will increase by 4 months for female employees until reaching 60 years old in 2035.
Thus, in 2024, the retirement age for female workers will be 56 years and 4 months.
In addition to retirement benefits, when participating in social insurance, female workers also enjoy many other benefits and rights, notably maternity benefits.
In the period 2016-2023 alone, the whole country has 12.8 million people receiving maternity benefits. On average, there are about 1.6 million people receiving maternity benefits/year, and there are even years when the number of benefits increases to 2 million people (2019). In 2023 alone, over 1.54 million people were recorded, an increase of 22.2% compared to 2022.
