On February 10, Mr. Duong Cong Tam - a pepper grower in Cua Duong commune (Phu Quoc city) - said that his family currently has about 800 pepper trees, of which about 250 are newly planted. Pepper prices are high this year, so he is very excited.
"Pepper takes a long time to harvest. Because I just planted it again, I got 500-700kg (of all kinds). Pepper prices are high so I'm very happy," said Mr. Tam.
Ms. Dang Thi Hong - a pepper grower in Cua Duong commune - informed that from 2024 until now, pepper has had a good harvest and good prices, so she is very happy. She sells ripe pepper (red pepper) for 300,000 VND/kg; pepper roots (dried green pepper) retail for 200,000 VND/kg, an increase of 20,000-50,000 VND/kg compared to before.
"My family currently has about 2,000 pepper trees, harvesting about 2-4 tons/year. Pepper prices have increased, making me and the local people very happy. I also hope that the locality has a solution to maintain the pepper source, ensure profits for the people, and preserve Phu Quoc specialties," Ms. Hong happily said.
Pepper prices have increased due to high consumer demand. Domestic and foreign tourists come to Phu Quoc to play, so they want to buy it to eat and give as gifts. Phu Quoc pepper has recently become famous for many types of products such as dried pepper, candied pepper, ripe pepper, etc.

The Farmers' Association of Cua Duong Commune (Phu Quoc City) said that Cua Duong Commune currently has 66 households growing pepper, with an area of over 15 hectares. Pepper is currently priced well, so people have expanded the area, planting 2,500 new trees.
"We hope that superiors and specialized agencies will create favorable conditions to support fertilizers, techniques, maintain Phu Quoc pepper gene varieties, and implement geographical indications for pepper plants to increase product value, contributing to increasing income for people," said Mr. Le Thanh Huy, Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Cua Duong Commune.
Phu Quoc City Farmers' Association said that the association is coordinating with relevant units to support people in accessing more capital, having more conditions for planting and caring, ensuring output, and maintaining pepper acreage on the island.
