The incident happened last Wednesday, US time. The soccer field is located in Gordon Moore Park in Alton, Illinois, US. Luckily, no one was injured in this incident.
The sinkhole is about 30m deep and 30m in diameter. During the sinkhole's appearance, a cluster of soccer field lights was "swallowed".

"This is an unusual incident," said Michael Haynes, Alton Parks and Recreation Director. "Authorities are investigating."
While the cause is investigated and repairs are made, the entire Gordon Moore Park will be closed.
The stadium has been in operation since 2019 with a construction cost of about 1 million USD.
The soccer field at Gordon Moore Park is home to local youth soccer teams, including the Marquette Catholic High School team.
"We have weekly practices here," said Brian Hoener, Marquette Catholic's head of physical education. "We have 60 to 70 students and teachers in each practice.
If the sinkhole had appeared while the students were practicing and playing soccer on the field, things could have been much worse. Luckily, no one was injured in this incident."
