(Dan Tri) – Ho Chi Minh City is carefully preserving 16 national treasures in 3 large museums, including one treasure protected by an infrared barrier system and a 24/7 camera surveillance system.

Ho Chi Minh City currently has 3 museums storing 16 extremely valuable national treasures, many of which were found to be over 1,000 years old.

The Vietnam History Museum (District 1) is currently preserving and displaying 12 national treasures including many bronze, wooden and stone statues of various shapes and sizes.

In the Champa cultural exhibition area, the bronze statue of Avalokitesvara (middle) dates from the 8th - 9th century. This statue was found in Hoai Nhon (Binh Dinh).

This is an antique that represents the advanced and creative bronze casting art and technique of the Champa people during this period.

Another Avalokitesvara statue was discovered in Dai Huu (Quang Binh) in 1923. The statue is made of bronze with a height of 52cm, belonging to the 10th century Champa culture.

The statue has a unique shape with 4 arms, the right hand holds a book, the left hand holds a string of beads, the two front hands hold a lotus flower and a vase of nectar. The statue's head has a high bun, the whole body is exquisitely carved.

In 1901, a French researcher found the Dong Duong Buddha statue in Dong Duong (Quang Nam). The statue is about 1,200 years old, belonging to the Champa culture. The statue is 120cm high, made of bronze, weighs 120kg, and depicts the Buddha wearing a monk's robe, standing and preaching on a lotus pedestal.

The bust of the goddess Devi was discovered in 1911 at a small temple in Huong Que village (Quang Nam). Goddess Devi was a queen of the ancient Champa kingdom.

This artifact, dated to the 10th century, is one of the masterpieces of ancient Champa stone sculpture. The statue is over 38cm tall, made of black sandstone, and after centuries of being buried, the statue is partially broken on the forehead, the broken neck has been reattached, and the left ear is also missing.

In the Oc Eo cultural exhibition area, visitors are attracted by four standing Buddha statues made of wood dating back to the 3rd - 4th century. Among them, three statues are recognized as National Treasures.

The statue of Buddha wearing a robe was found in Binh Hoa village (Long An) in 1947, dating from the 3rd - 4th century.

Right behind is a large statue made of Sao wood, 268cm high, weighing 100kg, carved of Buddha standing on a lotus throne. The statue dates back to the 4th century, found in My Tho (Dong Thap) in 1943. Both of these wooden statues are recognized as national treasures.

Right next to it is the statue of Buddha Sakyamuni, also found in Loi My village (Dong Thap) in 1937. The statue was carved from a single piece of pearl wood, about 1,500 years old.

The statue of Goddess Durga was found in 1902 in Lien Huu (Tra Vinh), made of stone, carved around the 7th - 8th century.

Durga is one of the wives of Lord Shiva, known as the goddess of victory over the buffalo demon. The goddess has a deep imprint in the spiritual life of Hindu followers of Oc Eo culture.

The Son Tho Buddha statue is made of sandstone, crafted by the Phu Nam people in the 7th century, the statue was found at a pagoda in Tra Vinh.

Except for three large wooden Buddha statues, the remaining nine treasures at the Vietnam Museum of History (HCMC) are all displayed and preserved in tempered glass boxes.

The statue of the Sun God Ba The was discovered at the foot of Ba The mountain (An Giang) in 1928. The statue depicts the god Surya with a balanced shape, an early art style in Southeast Asia, belonging to the unique Dvaravati art, typical of Oc Eo culture.

The statue of Vishnu, about 20cm high but delicately and meticulously crafted, is a typical example of the bronze casting technique of the Oc Eo culture. This statue was found in 1936 in Kien Giang, dating back to around the 3rd - 4th century.

God Vishnu - God of Preservation is one of the three main gods of Hinduism and is widely worshiped by the people of Funan.

National treasure – Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara statue dating back to the 7th century, found in Tra Vinh in 1937. The statue is made of sandstone, 90cm high, has 4 arms, depicted as a man, hair in a high bun, with many characteristic patterns carved on the body.

Two of the 16 national treasures currently on display at the Ho Chi Minh City Museum (District 1) are the printing mold for the 5-dong bill and the bronze seal of Luong Tai Hau.

In particular, the printing mold for the 5-dong bill dates from 1947 and is made from copper alloy. The printing mold is rectangular, with a portrait of President Ho Chi Minh carved in the middle, and the upper edge has the words (Democratic Republic of Vietnam engraved in flowers), and the face value of the bill is written in the number 5.

Below the denomination, there are two rectangular frames engraved with the words Representative of the Central Government and the signature of the late Prime Minister Pham Van Dong; the other frame has the words “ Representative of the Central Administrative Committee and the signature of Mr. Nguyen Duy Trinh, former member of the Politburo and former Standing member of the Secretariat.

The bronze seal of Luong Tai Hau was recognized by the Prime Minister as a national treasure in 2020. This is a unique artifact, made of bronze, cast in the 14th year of Minh Mang (1833).

The seal of Luong Tai Hau is the seal of one of the three meritorious mandarins and generals who led the three major armies at that time: Vanguard, Central, and Rear, and were awarded the title of Marquis. Among them, General Tran Van Nang was awarded the title of Luong Tai Hau.

The Ho Chi Minh City Museum of Fine Arts is also preserving two lacquer paintings that have been recognized as national treasures. They are “Spring Garden of Central, South and North” by Nguyen Gia Tri (1908-1993) and “Thanh Nien Thanh Dong” by Nguyen Sang (1923-1988).

The work “Spring Garden of Central, South and North” was created by famous painter Nguyen Gia Tri over 20 years, from 1969 to 1989, and is his last work. The painting was recognized by the State as a national treasure on December 30, 2013.

This treasure is displayed in a private room, protected by infrared barriers, 24/7 camera surveillance system and regularly monitored by security guards, equipped with a gas fire protection system.

The painting "Thanh Nien Thanh Dong" was created by artist Nguyen Sang (1923-1988) from 1967 to 1978. It is a special work whose content comes from the historical context of the country during the years of resistance against the US.

The work shows the indomitable will of the intellectual class in protesting the presence of American soldiers in Vietnam.
