BTO-Binh Thuan Dragon Fruit Association has just held a conference to summarize activities in 2024 and deploy tasks in 2025. Attending were leaders of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, a number of related departments and members of the association.
At the conference, Mr. Huynh Canh - Chairman of Binh Thuan Dragon Fruit Association informed that in 2024, the export value of dragon fruit in the province is estimated at 9.2 million USD, with an output of 8,400 tons, an increase of 13.46% over the same period in 2023. The whole province has about 200 facilities for purchasing, processing, and packaging for export, with a cold storage capacity of about 16,000 tons. Regarding the association's activities in 2024, it will continue to implement the regulations on management and use of the Geographical Indication "Binh Thuan". In particular, external inspection, control and assessment of conditions and capacity to grant new and re-grant the right to use the geographical indication of dragon fruit to 15 organizations and individuals, reaching 70% of the plan. At the same time, assessment and new issuance of certificates of right to use the Geographical Indication "Binh Thuan" for dragon fruit to 6 organizations and individuals in the districts. In 2024, the Association will closely coordinate with relevant departments and branches in implementing policies, plans, and solutions to carry out the tasks of production, business, domestic consumption, and export of dragon fruit. On the other hand, it will mobilize business members, production, purchasing, and processing establishments to actively participate in conferences, training sessions, trade fairs, and product introductions to seek and connect investment cooperation, develop consumption markets, etc. Binh Thuan Dragon Fruit Association has mobilized units and individuals to join the Dragon Fruit Association and has considered admitting 12 units and individuals, an increase of 20% compared to 2023. To date, the association has 80 members.
In 2025, the Dragon Fruit Association will develop plans and solutions to implement the assigned contents in the project to develop Binh Thuan dragon fruit until 2030 of the province. At the same time, it will continue to mobilize members to cooperate and support each other in economic and technical aspects in dragon fruit production and business. In addition, the organization of the chain of association - consumption of dragon fruit products of the members is always maintained stable and effective.
Speaking at the conference, Mr. Phan Van Tan - Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development provided more information about the province's dragon fruit development project until 2030. On the other hand, the association was reminded to update the dragon fruit consumption data of its members during the year. At the same time, it continued to encourage members to produce according to GAP standards...
Also at the conference, the Binh Thuan Dragon Fruit Association announced the decision to admit 12 units and individuals to the association. Along with that, it announced and awarded certificates of rights to use the geographical indication “Binh Thuan” for Binh Thuan dragon fruit to 11 organizations and individuals.
It is known that by the end of 2024, the whole province will have about 25,000 hectares of dragon fruit, with an output of 550,000 tons. Of which, over 9,000 hectares of dragon fruit are VietGAP certified, 453 hectares are GlobalGAP certified and 93 hectares are organic certified. According to the Dragon Fruit Association, the dragon fruit export market is facing many challenges due to fierce competition as the area and output of dragon fruit in some countries and territories around the world have increased rapidly. In particular, China has planted dragon fruit on an area of about 65,000 hectares, with an output of 1.2 million tons/year.
