MSc. Dr. Nghiem Tran Dung, representative of VNVC Vaccination System, presented 500,000 doses of measles vaccine (MVVAC) to Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Lien Huong.

The vaccines will be distributed to localities at risk of outbreaks, increasing coverage and protecting public health. Speaking at the ceremony, MSc. Dr. Nghiem Tran Dung, representative of the VNVC Vaccination System, emphasized that over the past 8 years, VNVC has safely vaccinated millions of doses of measles vaccine, contributing to protecting the health of millions of children and adults. However, after the Covid-19 pandemic, vaccination has encountered many difficulties, leading to the risk of a large number of children and adults not being fully vaccinated, whether in the expanded vaccination program or service vaccination. This could be one of the reasons why measles this year has recorded many severe cases, complicated developments and the risk of an outbreak.

Currently, VNVC has nearly 220 vaccination centers nationwide with more than 4,000 vaccination lines. However, to accelerate the coverage of measles vaccines and effectively prevent epidemics, coordination between the VNVC Vaccination System and the Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI) in localities is essential. Therefore, as soon as the Prime Minister directed the Ministry of Health to urgently promote measles vaccination, VNVC proactively contributed and donated a large number of vaccines to support localities in promptly implementing vaccination and protecting public health.

Sharing at the event, MSc. Dr. Nghiem Tran Dung emphasized: “ This activity not only demonstrates social responsibility, but also our commitment to join hands to repel the epidemic, protect the health of millions of Vietnamese children and families in many different ways. Previously, in September 2024, thousands of doctors and staff of VNVC participated in the Measles Vaccination Campaign organized by Ho Chi Minh City, contributing facilities, medical supplies, and mobilizing staff to join the City's medical forces to vaccinate against measles.

500,000 doses of MVVAC measles vaccine (Vietnam) donated by VNVC will be promptly distributed to localities by the Ministry of Health.

At the event, Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Lien Huong, on behalf of the Ministry of Health, thanked VNVC for its timely support of 500,000 doses of measles vaccine, helping to speed up the vaccination campaign as directed by the Prime Minister. She also expressed her hope that VNVC will continue to accompany the Ministry of Health and localities to control the measles epidemic, aiming for 95% of children in at-risk areas to be fully vaccinated.

In addition to the vaccine donation activity, on the same day, VNVC officially launched the campaign "Joining hands to prevent measles" nationwide in response to the direction of the Government and the Ministry of Health. The campaign will carry out many meaningful activities such as organizing online seminars and exchanges to answer people's questions about measles, promoting communication information, and mobilizing people to proactively get fully vaccinated on schedule according to the instructions of the health sector.

VNVC not only focuses on providing adequate measles vaccines but also implements many financial support policies, helping people easily access vaccines at reasonable costs. In particular, the program "Vaccinate first, pay later" with an interest-free installment period of up to 12 months has been applied by VNVC, creating conditions for families in difficult circumstances to still be able to vaccinate their children and family members.

VNVC participates in the measles vaccination campaign for children aged 1-10 years old launched by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health in 2024.

Dr. Bach Thi Chinh, Medical Director of VNVC Vaccination System, said: “ VNVC provides a full range of measles vaccines for children from 6 months old and adults, including MVVAC (Vietnam), Priorix (Belgium), MMR-II (USA). In which, MVVAC is a single measles vaccine. MMR-II and Priorix are combination vaccines that prevent 3 diseases: measles - mumps - rubella in the same injection, improving disease prevention efficiency and saving vaccination costs .”

Measles is an acute infectious disease caused by a virus that can spread rapidly through the respiratory tract, especially in crowded environments such as schools and residential areas. Nearly 100% of people who are not immune are at risk of contracting the disease. The disease can cause dangerous complications such as diarrhea, corneal ulcers, pneumonia, encephalitis and even death. For pregnant women, measles infection can lead to miscarriage, stillbirth or premature birth. The two most recent major measles outbreaks in 2014 and 2019 had serious impacts, with more than 110 children dying from measles in 2014 alone.

In addition to the 500,000 doses of measles vaccine donated to the Ministry of Health and active participation in vaccination campaigns nationwide, VNVC also strives to fully supply other vaccines in the context of complicated epidemic developments, including influenza vaccine, pneumococcal vaccine against pneumonia, meningitis, sepsis, meningococcal group B vaccine, ACYW, dengue fever vaccine, shingles vaccine...

At the same time, VNVC continuously implements incentive programs and financial support, especially targeting people in remote areas, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to access high-quality vaccines to protect their own health and that of the community.
