Revealing the story of astronauts having to 'drink urine' on the spaceship

Few people can imagine what the work of astronauts on a spaceship would be like.

The United States is one of the few countries leading the world in space exploration and the space industry. But the products of this industry, and the work of astronauts and thousands of people serving them, are unlike ordinary industries, making it difficult for anyone to imagine. Coming to the NASA Space Museum in Houston, Texas, visitors can partly imagine how the Americans conquered space and brought humans to the Moon.

On July 20, 1969, American astronauts on Apollo 11 conducted experiments on the surface of the Moon to learn about soil, meteorites, seismic surveys, magnetic fields and solar wind... Using the means they carried, they brought 111 kg of various types of soil and rocks from the Moon back to Earth.

Living in a zero-gravity environment, astronauts will have to filter urine and other waste products to continue drinking.

To reach the Moon, the spacecraft's speed is 28 thousand km/h. Experiencing it firsthand at the exhibition, people can see that escaping the Earth's gravity, astronauts work in a state of weightlessness, strapping themselves into bags while sleeping, exercising daily so that their muscles do not lose elasticity... Then there is the matter of excretion, such as filtering urine and other wastes to continue drinking, because the cost of bringing each kilogram onto the spacecraft is calculated in tens of thousands of USD.

Mr. Jeff Oliver (Huston City, Texas, USA) said: "When visiting the training center, we will see the launch pad of the spacecraft, the selection process, and training to become an astronaut with many strict requirements and standards, in terms of physical strength, technique, and skills to be able to complete the mission of each flight, and return to Earth safely".

The exhibition area organizes train rides for visitors to visit different areas, such as the display of the Saturn 5 rocket, also known as the Moon rocket that carried the Apollo spacecraft and astronauts to the Moon for the first time. The rocket is 111 meters long, equivalent to the length of a football field, weighs nearly 3,000 tons, and can hold 12 buses in its belly.

The cost of carrying each kilogram onto a spacecraft is calculated in tens of thousands of dollars.

The rocket has three main components: the command module with a cabin for three astronauts, which is also the only part that lands on Earth; a service module that supports the command module with thrust, electrical power, oxygen and water, and the lunar module for landing on the moon.

Mr. Robbin (Instructor, NASA Space Center, Houston, USA) said: "All the most important and difficult tasks had to be done directly by the astronauts, because at that time there was no computer support. They had to go out into space, screw and remove one module, only for the remaining module to fly to the Moon".

Not only can visitors see the shuttle, they can also go inside the shuttle and the Boeing 747 that carries it. This is the only place in the United States that allows visitors to go inside the shuttle.

Every Friday, the center organizes for visitors to sit in a spaceship, in a state of weightlessness like moving outside the Earth's space or wear astronaut suits, to interact with NASA astronauts.
