According to the report, there are still about 500,000 unidentified martyrs nationwide, of which 200,000 remains have not been collected and 300,000 remains have been buried but lack information. In Ha Tinh alone, nearly 12,000 martyrs have still not been identified.
To solve this problem, the Ministry of Public Security is developing an identification database that integrates DNA information data and has proposed to the Government a policy of analyzing DNA information for all relatives of unidentified martyrs in order to create a large database of DNA of relatives to serve the search for information on the remains of unidentified martyrs. With this database, the search and verification of relatives will be easier and more accurate; it is an opportunity for families of heroic martyrs to find their loved ones.
At cluster 1, 53 samples will be collected from martyrs' mothers and 46 samples from martyrs' relatives. The sampling program will be implemented in 2 options. For mothers who are still in good health and can travel, the local government, health sector and police will organize vehicles to take the mothers to the gathering point. For mothers who are elderly and have difficulty traveling, the working group will go directly to their homes to collect samples for DNA testing.
The program is considered to have special significance, contributing to fulfilling the wish to identify the heroic martyrs, bringing comfort and easing the pain of those left behind, and also showing deep gratitude for the noble sacrifices of the heroic martyrs for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland.
Previously, implementing Plan No. 356 dated July 17, 2024 of the Ministry of Public Security, the Public Security, the Military Command of Ha Tinh province, and the People's Committees at the district level organized the review, collection, and update of information on martyrs and relatives of martyrs whose information has not been identified and is subject to DNA sample collection.
