According to a representative of Thanh Thanh Phat Company, Saigon Port in District 4 will be the departure point for the Phu Quy ship in Ho Chi Minh City. Saigon Port is located in the central area of ​​Ho Chi Minh City, so passengers can easily move to board the ship without wasting extra time on transit.

The ship is expected to depart on March 29, departing from Ho Chi Minh City to Con Dao and the next day there will be a return trip from Con Dao to Ho Chi Minh City.

Phu Quy ship at Saigon port (District 4)

However, according to many experts, the Phu Quy ship running from Saigon Port (District 4) to Con Dao in only 5 hours and 30 minutes is difficult to do. Because according to the regulations of the Ho Chi Minh City Maritime Port Authority, the maximum speed allowed for ships to run from Saigon Port to buoy number zero is only 12 nautical miles. Therefore, if the ship runs at the maximum speed as prescribed to reach the coast, it will take at least 3 hours.

With the remaining time at sea and the distance from Ho Chi Minh City to Con Dao being 90 nautical miles, the ship will hardly be able to run with the remaining time of 2 hours and 30 minutes.

Mr. Nguyen The Hien, a former pilot who once led ships into Saigon port, said that according to published specifications, the Phu Quy ship has a maximum speed of 28 nautical miles/hour, but ships usually only run at about 22 nautical miles/hour, so the fastest time the ship can run from Saigon Port to Con Dao is about 8 hours and 23 minutes.

According to the latest information, the Ministry of Construction has extended the license to operate the passenger transport route from Ho Chi Minh City to Con Dao for Phuquoc Express. The company is currently completing procedures to resume operations. It is expected that Phuquoc Express will resume the operation of the Thang Long train on the Ho Chi Minh City - Con Dao route from mid-April 2025. Thus, with the two units operating the Ho Chi Minh City - Con Dao route, passengers will have the opportunity to experience a more diverse and competitive transportation service.

Discussing the issue of the time of the voyage, Mr. Nguyen Van Dang - General Director of Thanh Thanh Phat Company said that according to the regulations of the Maritime Administration, the Phu Quy ship runs at the right speed and according to calculations, it will take about 2 hours and 30 minutes to reach the sea. Once out at sea, the ship will take about 3 hours and the total estimated time for the entire voyage from Ho Chi Minh City to Con Dao will be about 5 hours and 45 minutes.

“However, this is the ideal speed. Ships running at sea are also affected by weather and wind, so the running time can be extended by about 25 to 30 minutes depending on the situation,” Mr. Dang added.

According to Mr. Dang, the number of passengers registering for the Phu Quy boat on the Ho Chi Minh City - Con Dao route has reached over 70% of capacity. It is expected that in the coming time, the number of passengers will continue to increase because during the tourist season, the sea is calm and it is convenient for tourists to take the high-speed boat to Con Dao right from the center of Ho Chi Minh City.

Phu Quy ship is 39m long, 11m wide with a capacity of 374 passengers: 95 seats and 279 beds with full amenities. With an engine capacity of 3,000 KW, the ship has a speed of about 28 nautical miles/hour, capable of carrying nearly 300 passengers (including 230 beds) and 15 tons of cargo.
