Military Region 4 Command meets to celebrate 90th anniversary of militia and self-defense tradition

90 years ago, on March 28, 1935, at the First National Party Congress held in Macau (China), our Party issued a "Resolution on Self-Defense Forces". Throughout the revolutionary periods, the Vietnamese militia and self-defense forces have made outstanding contributions, contributing to writing the heroic history of the nation.

The Militia and Self-Defense Force of Military Zone 4 was also formed very early. In the years 1930 - 1931, the armed forces of the masses in Inter-zone 4 continuously grew and developed, from the first "Red Self-Defense" team to the formation of "Worker-Peasant Self-Defense" teams, protecting the Party, protecting political bases; protecting the struggles of the people, rising up to break the chains of slavery under the domination of the colonialists, feudalists and imperialists, the peak of which was the Nghe Tinh Soviet movement (1930 - 1931).

In the land of Thanh - Nghe - Tinh - Binh - Tri - Thien, the militia and guerrillas in the villages, hamlets, cities, towns, workers' - farmers' - forestry farms, mines, factories... were the backbone for the entire people to fight the enemy, contributing an important role to the victory of the August Revolution in 1945 to seize power for the people, establishing the Democratic Republic of Vietnam.

On February 25, 1947, the Commander of War Zone 4 signed a decision to establish the Militia Committee of War Zone 4, with the mission of protecting the Party's bases, protecting the people, intercepting sweeps, ambushing and destroying enemy groups, and building a widespread militia base to conduct long-term guerrilla warfare such as the "Suicide Squad", "Commando Squad", and "Permanent Militia".

During the two long resistance wars against French colonialism and the US to save the country, the militia and guerrillas of Military Region 4 coordinated with local troops and main force troops to organize many large and small battles, wearing down and destroying many enemy forces and destroying many enemy war vehicles.

After 90 years of building, fighting and growing, in any circumstances, the militia and self-defense force of Military Region 4 has always been a force living among the people, working with the people in production and economic development, and is a shock force, taking the lead in carrying out local defense and military tasks.

As a large and powerful mass armed force, The militia and self-defense forces of Military Region 4 are truly the right-hand men, the living walls to protect the Party, the government and the local people; set an example in implementing and mobilizing the people to well implement the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's laws, take the lead in labor production and production protection; prevent and overcome natural disasters, rescue and other serious incidents that the local Party committees, government and people trust and entrust.

The achievements of the militia and self-defense force are always associated with the attention, leadership and direction of the Party, the State, the Ministry of National Defense, the direct leadership and direction of the Party Committee, the Military Region Command, the Military Region General Staff, and local Party committees and authorities, and the close coordination and support of the Military Region agencies, relevant agencies, organizations and units inside and outside the army. The growth of the militia and self-defense force of the Military Region is the result of the sense of responsibility, outstanding efforts and great contributions of generations of cadres, party members and militia and self-defense soldiers. These achievements deserve the Party and State to honor many outstanding collectives and individuals with the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces.

At the meeting, the Military Region Command awarded Certificates of Merit to 8 groups with outstanding achievements in building the Militia and Self-Defense Force.
