Expansion joints and cracks on the North-South Expressway will be fixed soon.

Accordingly, the North-South expressway in the East from the North of Tam Diep-Dien Chau tunnel and Cam Lo-La Son has been put into operation since 2024, and some damages have appeared affecting traffic safety; especially the damage to the expansion joints of the bridges on the route (such as the expansion joint of Song Nhom bridge Km341+182 being popped off on February 6, 2025 and some other locations), posing a high risk of causing traffic insecurity on the expressway.

Immediately afterwards, the Department of Roads issued many documents urging project management boards and reporting to the Ministry of Construction on repairing damage according to warranty responsibilities.

Safety on highways must always be ensured.

To ensure traffic safety on the expressway, the Department of Roads requests project management boards to urgently organize repairs for expansion joints that have broken concrete and bolts that are at high risk of causing traffic safety problems, and requires contractors to immediately carry out repairs and complete them before April 30, 2025. The contractor must develop a detailed treatment plan and construction methods for the repairs, and submit them to the project management board for approval to ensure the quality requirements of the project and ensure traffic safety during construction.

In case the project management board and contractors are slow to carry out the above repair work, if traffic safety is lost due to causes related to these damages, the project management board and contractors must be responsible according to the provisions of law.

The Vietnam Road Administration also requested project management boards to review the entire design and construction work for the expansion joints on the route to assess the causes of the damage and immediate and long-term remedies for the phenomenon of extensive damage to the above-mentioned expansion joints; in which special attention should be paid to the assessment of the suitability of the types of joints currently used on the above-mentioned expressways. The review results should be sent to the Vietnam Road Administration before April 30, 2025.
