According to the People's Committee of Hoan Kiem District, Ly Thai To flower garden is located in Trang Tien ward with dimensions of 212 m x 54,051 m with a total area of 11,459 m2, bordered by Dinh Tien Hoang, Le Thach, Le Lai and Ngo Quyen streets.
The flower garden is not located within the protected area of Ngoc Son Temple and Hoan Kiem Lake, but it has an important function in connecting Hoan Kiem Lake with the surrounding areas including: Dien Hong flower garden, the square space in front of the State Bank; valuable architectural works such as the Government Guest House, Hanoi Party Committee Headquarters, Hanoi People's Council - People's Committee, Metropole Hotel...

In 2020 (on the occasion of the 1010th anniversary of Thang Long - Hanoi), Hanoi City carried out the embankment of Hoan Kiem Lake and renovated and renovated the technical infrastructure in sync with the walking paths and flower beds at Hoan Kiem Lake Park, which has been highly appreciated to date. Meanwhile, the infrastructure of Ly Thai To Flower Garden, after more than 20 years of use, the current state of the trees is not suitable, the grass, flower beds and walking paths have degraded, and need to be renovated to ensure the landscape and functionality suitable for the special National Monument of Hoan Kiem Lake.
After being renovated, the flower garden space will be rearranged into three main areas: Khanh tiet area adjacent to Dinh Tien Hoang street with an area of about 5,637m2, Octagonal yard area with an area of about 3,033m2 and the flower garden area behind adjacent to Ngo Quyen street with an area of about 2,789m2.
Khanh tiet area: includes the lobby adjacent to Dinh Tien Hoang street, Khanh tiet yard and incense offering yard, in which the statue of King Ly Thai To is the highest part, the pedestal is kept intact, only the yard surface is covered. Expand Khanh tiet yard towards the sidewalk of Dinh Tien Hoang street.
The Km0 project located in the center of Khanh Tiet Stadium from the results of the design competition organized by the Vietnam Association of Architects in 2020 is being adjusted to suit current technical conditions.
Octagonal House Area: Complete the landscape of trees, lawns and yard areas to increase connectivity with the central space axis.
Flower garden area (behind the statue of King Ly Thai To and the Octagonal House, connecting to the State Bank Square): Renovated, landscaped with trees and walkways with underground water sprinkler systems for use during festivals, New Year's Eve and contributing to improving the microclimate of the area. The sprinklers are installed underground, so the flat surface of the small yard does not affect the activities of people and visitors when coming to the flower garden.
Regarding trees, the People's Committee of Hoan Kiem District said: The total number of trees in Ly Thai To flower garden is diversely planted over many periods with a total of 100 trees (20 types) such as: Sua, Vang Anh, Than Mat, Bang Lang, Giang Huong, Barringtonia, Hoang Yen, Muong, Da, De, Lat, Soai, Phuong, Si, Sanh, Sua, Lan, Chay, Seu, Dau Nuoc.
The renovation and beautification of the flower garden is carried out according to the principle that valuable trees, perennial plants, and ancient trees will not be affected, only small, worthless trees and diseased trees will be replaced and moved. The plan of the People's Committee of Hoan Kiem district proposed to move and move 25 trees (of which 16 trees will be moved within the flower garden, 9 diseased trees will be replaced). Planting replacements and supplementing 30 trees with species suitable for Hanoi's climate. When completed, the total number of shade trees in Ly Thai To flower garden will be 114 (an increase of 14 trees compared to before the renovation).
The plan to renovate and embellish Ly Thai To flower garden completed the consultation with the community on February 25, 2025.
