On September 19, information from the Hanoi Department of Education and Training said that most schools in Hanoi have welcomed students back to school to study normally.
However, there are still 26 schools that have not opened to welcome students back to in-person learning, including 9 kindergartens, 9 primary schools, and 8 secondary schools. Chuong My district is the unit with the most schools having to close for in-person learning, with 16 schools.
The Ministry of Education and Training reported that storm No. 3 caused heavy human and property damage to the education sector with 67 students injured and killed; damage to facilities and teaching equipment estimated at over VND1,260 billion; and damage to more than 41,500 sets of textbooks.
Although the Hanoi education sector suffered no human casualties, facilities, teaching equipment and many trees were damaged.
Faced with the complicated weather conditions and recent impacts of the storm, under the direction of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, schools that were flooded or did not have adequate facilities have flexibly organized appropriate teaching methods such as online teaching, assigning homework, and assigning teachers to support students.
At present, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training requires schools to both teach and urgently overcome the consequences; carefully review safety conditions; disinfect and sanitize; and strengthen the prevention of accidents and injuries for students.
In a newly issued document on organizing teaching and learning for schools damaged by floods, the Ministry of Education and Training requested local Departments of Education and Training to adjust the school's education plan and develop a make-up plan for students to ensure completion of the first semester's education program as well as the entire school year according to the general education plan of the locality and the whole country.
