At the same time, honor, introduce and promote the unique cultural heritage values ​​of Ba Duong Noi village kite festival, Dieu temple relic, traditional kite making in Dan Phuong district to tourists inside and outside the city.

The Kite Festival in Ba Duong Noi village has a history of thousands of years associated with the relic of the Kite Temple worshiping the God of the Delta. The festival includes main rituals such as: the ceremony of conferring the robes and uniforms; the ceremony of uniforms; the ceremony of declaring the royal decree; the ceremony of worshiping the chief; the kite presentation ceremony; the ceremony of praying for wind and flying the kite. The kite that wins first prize will be brought to the temple to worship the God of the Delta...

The Ba Duong Noi village kite flying competition takes place over three days, from the 14th to the 16th of the third lunar month, with the main festival taking place on the 15th of the third lunar month, the beginning of a new crop season for farmers in ancient times.

The Ba Duong Noi village kite flying festival conveys the desire to pray for favorable weather and wind for a good harvest and a prosperous life. The festival reflects the cultural beliefs of agricultural residents along the Red River - the largest river in the Northern Delta, which has an influence on the entire life of residents in the downstream area, contributing to the formation of the cultural flow and civilization of the Red River.

The kite festival of Ba Duong Noi village, Hong Ha commune was included in the list of national intangible cultural heritage by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Through the historical context, the origin of the Ba Duong Noi village kite flying competition shows that the folk experience in observing the weather, wind speed, and wind direction to fly kites has been applied to agricultural production. The festival has contributed to educating about the morality of drinking water and remembering its source, orienting the cultural behavior of people towards nature and social relationships, forming awareness of protecting the natural environment. At the same time, the festival is a link connecting the community in creative and enjoyable activities, cultural exchange, strengthening solidarity and mutual love; preserving local traditions and customs.

Elevating the traditional kite making profession

Previously, making flute kites in Ba Duong Noi was only spontaneous, satisfying passion, mainly for playing or giving, and preserving the traditional identity of the heritage. In recent years, due to the demand for flute kite flying, many people in different places are passionate about learning and ordering products with the value of each kite ranging from several hundred thousand dong to several million dong or more, the kite making profession in Ba Duong Noi has developed strongly.

Chairman of Hong Ha Commune People's Committee Nguyen Manh Ha said that currently, Ba Duong Noi village has 134 households making traditional flute kites. The village has 3 artisans who have been awarded the title of People's Artisan, Meritorious Artisan in the field of intangible cultural heritage, folk knowledge type: artisans Nguyen Huu Kiem, Pham Van Mai and Nguyen Gia Do.

The good news is that the teaching of how to make and fly kites is not only within Ba Duong Noi village but also spreads to many other groups of people. For example, on the occasion of International Children's Day (June 1), Mid-Autumn Festival or in extracurricular activities of schools and other events in Hanoi, artisans in Ba Duong Noi village have participated in introducing and instructing children and young people about the traditional craft of making kites.

People of Ba Duong Noi village have brought traditional flute kites to participate in many major festivals in the country as well as internationally such as: International Kite Festival in Thua Thien Hue, Vung Tau; Grand ceremony to celebrate 1000 years of Thang Long - Hanoi; International Kite Festival held in Thailand (2010, 2014); China (2012); France (2012); Malaysia (2014) ... and have been highly appreciated by international friends for the uniqueness and strong national identity of Vietnamese kites.

“In the coming years, the locality will continue to promote and develop the flute kite making profession associated with tourism, new services serving the festival, symbolizing cultural heritage, aiming to make the Ba Duong Noi village kite festival and the flute kite making profession become an attractive tourist destination of the capital” – Chairman of Hong Ha Commune People's Committee Nguyen Manh Ha shared.

Kite Temple - a relic associated with Ba Duong Noi Kite Festival is recognized as a City-level historical and artistic relic according to Decision No. 5829/QD-UBND dated November 14, 2023 of Hanoi People's Committee.

Within the framework of the ceremony to receive the national intangible cultural heritage of Ba Duong Noi village kite festival; Certificate of recognition of the title of Hanoi traditional craft - Ba Duong Noi village kite making craft, Hong Ha commune, Dan Phuong district, there are also other special activities such as: decorating the "Connecting Journey" kite road; displaying and exhibiting kites, photos, poems, and works of art about kites; parading kites around Dan Phuong district by car and motorbike; culinary contest, traditional rice cake pounding contest; chess competition; open volleyball competition; youth kite competition...

With its unique values, the Ba Duong Noi village kite festival, Hong Ha commune, Dan Phuong district was included in the list of national intangible cultural heritage by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in Decision No. 372/QD-BVHTTDL dated February 21, 2024; Hanoi People's Committee recognized the title of Hanoi's traditional craft - the craft of making flute kites in Ba village, Duong Noi in Decision No. 2982/QD-UBND dated June 7, 2024.
