On the morning of April 25, the giant lotus-shaped skylight barrier of Ben Thanh underground station on the Metro line was dismantled, returning 8,000 square meters of September 23 Park and Quach Thi Trang roundabout.
The skylight has a diameter of 27m and is over 4m high, allowing natural light and creating an open space (because the wall is covered with glass). Currently, the progress of Ben Thanh station is 99.41%, of which the structure is 100% complete.
Made from two main materials, glass and aluminum honeycomb panels imported from Japan, this project has good weather resistance and superior insulation, and is a highlight and symbol of Ben Thanh station in particular and metro line 1 (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien) in general.
On the morning of April 25, workers began dismantling the last barriers.
Mr. Nguyen Trung Hieu, Deputy Director of Project Management Board 1 (under MAUR) said that according to the contract, the entire land will be returned after Ben Thanh station is completed. However, the units focus on re-establishing and handing over 50% of the area in advance, helping the city center to be more airy.
The remaining part of the project will be dismantled and the space will be restored after Ben Thanh station is completed, expected in October this year. The investor also requested the contractor to open a walkway across the existing structure from 6am to 6pm, to facilitate people to enter and exit the park, restore recreational activities, walking...
The re-leveling work around the giant lotus-shaped skylight has been basically completed. Residents and tourists can stroll around the city center through the Ben Thanh station area and "check-in" at this new location.
