Vocational education in 2024: Increasing quotas, reorganizing networks

Specifically, Ms. Nguyen Thi Viet Huong, Deputy Director General of the General Department of Vocational Education, said that compared to 2023, the vocational training target has increased by more than 100,000 people, from 2.3 million people to 2.43 million people receiving vocational training with degrees and certificates.

Of which, regular enrollment for colleges and intermediate schools will reach 530,000 people in 2024, and primary level and vocational training under 3 months will be 1.9 million people.

The number of graduates will reach 2.1 million.

In addition, the number of vocational education graduates in 2024 will reach more than 2.1 million people, of which 346,000 will have college and intermediate degrees, and 1.8 million will have elementary and vocational training degrees under 3 months.

Also in 2024, the General Department of Vocational Education will advise the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs to guide ministries, branches and localities to continue reviewing, arranging and reorganizing public vocational education institutions at four levels: national, regional, sectoral and local.

The number of vocational training institutions nationwide is currently about 1,900, many of which are operating ineffectively. The rearrangement will ensure that the planning of the vocational training network and the planning of socio-economic development are streamlined.

In 2024, it is also expected that there will be a project on investment in vocational education facilities to perform the functions of national centers and regional centers for high-quality training and practice.

In addition, from 2024, the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs will implement a project to train and develop soft skills for vocational education students.

The Ministry will pilot training and soft skills development for students at 30 educational institutions nationwide, piloting for about 15,000 students.

Pilot schools will integrate soft skills training into curricular and extracurricular activities and field trips.

From the results achieved, the ministry will make soft skills subjects official subjects taught in the vocational education system.

Training according to market needs

Lilama 2 International College of Technology (Dong Nai) will implement a carbon credit training program from 2024.

This is also the first educational institution in the country to train in carbon credits, expected to enroll about 50 students in the first year.

The carbon credit training program is transferred from BTEC Pearson (UK), and will be implemented for 2-year intermediate level students and 6-month short-term bachelor degree students.

Dr. Nguyen Khanh Cuong, principal of Lilama 2 International Technology College, said that the demand for human resources in the field of carbon credits in the future will be very large.

It is forecasted that to fulfill its net zero commitment by 2050, Vietnam will need about 150,000 people to participate in the energy transition sector. Therefore, the opportunities for learners will be huge.

Dr. Bui Van Hung, principal of College of Technology II, said that in 2024, the school will cooperate with Vietjet to train level A aircraft maintenance technicians.

The program is divided into two phases, phase 1 will study the college program at College of Technology II, students can choose the profession of automotive technology or mechanical engineering technology. Phase 2, students will study at Vietjet Aviation Academy for in-depth content on aircraft maintenance techniques.

Mr. Hung said that the connection between businesses and schools in training helps to maximize the resources of lecturers and equipment of both sides, while shortening training time.

In this program, upon completion, students can work at two major aviation projects currently underway in Vietnam or Laos.

Meanwhile, to keep up with the labor market, Saigon Technical and Tourism College has just merged a job search channel into the school. The channel will act as a bridge for businesses and students to connect to find jobs, visit and practice.

Ms. Tran Thi My Thuy, deputy head of the tourism department, said that from the channel of listening to businesses, the school will design programs and train specialized students according to the practical needs of the market.

Japanese and Korean businesses "place orders"

Dr. Hoang Van Phuc, principal of Saigon Polytechnic College, said that since the beginning of the year, a group of about 20 students have gone to Japan to participate in paid internship programs.

Mr. Phuc said that in recent years he has continuously received "orders" from Japanese and Korean businesses to recruit workers for the automotive, mechanical, restaurant, and hotel industries.

Every year, the school sends students to work or intern abroad 4-5 times. The salary you receive is around 50 million VND/month after deducting all expenses.

Exciting international training

Dr. Tran Thanh Nhan, Vice Principal of Van Lang Saigon College, said that recently there has been a growing demand for international programs, both from partner businesses and from students.

Enterprises in Germany, Japan, Korea, etc. connect with the school to train and supply labor. Students who study for 2 years (6 semesters) can be accepted to work at foreign enterprises with an average salary of about 350 million VND/year.

You can work for an average of 3 years. After returning home, students can continue to be introduced to jobs or continue their studies at university if needed.

Ms. Nhan said that the occupations that are prioritized by foreign countries and have a high demand for labor include construction, mechanics, automobiles, nursing, beauty care, information technology, etc.
