As one of the largest seaports in Vietnam, in your opinion, what are the strengths of Saigon New Port to become a partner of Gothenburg Port - one of the largest seaports in the Northern Europe region?
Tan Cang Saigon Corporation is operating a system of 28 port facilities and logistics service infrastructure across the country. In particular, Tan Cang Saigon is the only port operator with a deep-water port system in both the South and the North connecting directly to America and Europe. Goods are exported to more than 200 countries and territories, cooperating with more than 150 shipping lines and shipping agents worldwide and more than 40,000 partners, customers, and import-export enterprises at home and abroad.
With a cargo handling capacity of up to 10 million TEU/year, Tan Cang Saigon contributes more than 92% of the market share in the Southern region and nearly 56% of the market share of import and export containers through the country's seaports. The total container throughput of the ports under the Tan Cang Saigon Corporation system is currently equivalent to the output of the port cluster ranked 17th in the TOP 20 container port clusters with the largest throughput in the world.

It is known that Gothenburg Port and Saigon Newport have signed a memorandum of cooperation. What do you expect from the cooperation between the two sides in the coming time?
Within the framework of the official visit and working session in Sweden and Finland, on September 4, 2024 (Swedish time), in Sweden, the working delegation of Hai Phong City People's Committee led by Mr. Le Khac Nam - Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee - worked with Gothenburg Port - the largest seaport in Northern Europe to strengthen cooperation in the field of logistics.
The working session of Hai Phong city leaders at Gothenburg Port continued to implement the orientation of the two sides to strengthen cooperation in ports and logistics to facilitate Vietnamese goods in general and Hai Phong in particular with the Northern European region to directly enter each other's markets, increasing import and export turnover.
Then, on September 6, within the framework of the Vietnam - Sweden Business Forum, Saigon Newport Corporation and Gothenburg Port signed a MOU. Saigon Newport Corporation stretches from the North, Central and South, including two deep-water port clusters with direct maritime service routes from Hai Phong (TC-HICT) and Cai Mep to America and Europe. Saigon Newport Corporation believes that this is a great opportunity for shipping lines to deploy direct service routes to Gothenburg Port, Sweden in the near future.
With this memorandum, in your opinion, how will Vietnamese exports to Northern Europe in particular and Europe in general benefit?
Hai Phong City, Saigon Newport Corporation and Gothenburg Port signed a memorandum of understanding to jointly promote the market, exchange experiences in port operations, especially digital transformation, green transformation, sustainable development and human resource development for the port operations, logistics services and supply chain industry.
With the above mentioned contents, the two sides will coordinate, research cooperation, connect and work with major shipping lines in Europe that have direct shipping routes in Vietnam to build direct shipping routes from Vietnam to Sweden in particular and the Northern Europe region in general. Thus, it is possible to reduce logistics costs, leading to lower prices of goods, at the same time faster transportation time, more diverse goods, to create conditions for Vietnamese goods in general and Hai Phong in particular with the Northern Europe region to directly enter each other's markets, increasing import and export turnover.
To realize the contents of the memorandum, what solutions will Tan Cang Saigon implement in the coming time?
To realize the contents of the memorandum, first, Saigon Newport and Gothenburg Port will establish an “Action Implementation Team” with members from both sides regularly and periodically working together, outlining specific goals and timelines to coordinate and connect with partners such as international shipping lines such as CMA, HAPAG LOYLD, MAERSK, MSC… and major import-export cargo owners.
In addition, Tan Cang Saigon will closely coordinate with the People's Committee of Hai Phong City, the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, especially the Department of Industry and Trade of the two cities to organize seminars and forums related to import and export between Vietnam and Sweden. Regularly assign working groups between the two countries to exchange, acquire and learn knowledge and skills in green transformation and digital transformation of Gothenburg Port and apply them to Tan Cang Saigon's seaport system in Vietnam.
Thank you sir !
