General Phan Van Giang welcomed and presented flowers to Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone at Tan Cang-Cat Lai Port.
Also participating in the welcoming ceremony for Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone were Vice Admiral Tran Thanh Nghiem, member of the Party Central Committee, Commander of the Navy; Lieutenant General Nguyen Truong Thang, member of the Party Central Committee, Commander of Military Region 7, and representatives of the Ministry of National Defense, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lao Embassy in Vietnam, the Navy, and the Board of Directors of Saigon Newport Corporation and its member units.
By 2024, Vietnam had become the third largest supplier of goods to the Lao market, after Thailand and China. In this context, logistics plays a key role in ensuring an efficient supply chain.
Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone listened to the leader of Saigon Newport Corporation introduce Tan Cang-Cat Lai port.
As the largest port operator in Vietnam, Saigon Newport has pioneered in building an efficient supply chain, supporting the implementation of many seaport cooperation projects, enhancing logistics connectivity, especially with projects for oversized and overweight cargo.
These efforts not only aim to enhance trade connectivity, but also contribute to building a modern and sustainable logistics ecosystem, affirming the comprehensive friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Laos.
Speaking at the meeting, Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone emphasized: The Vietnamese Government has created favorable conditions for Laos to exploit and operate at Vung Ang port, which demonstrates high support for Laos, helping Laos from a landlocked country to have access to the sea, contributing to impressive growth in trade turnover between the two countries, especially in the fields of agricultural, mineral and electricity exports.
General Phan Van Giang presented a photo of Uncle Ho wearing a Navy cap to Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone.
That result has a very important contribution from Vietnam's defense and security enterprises, especially Saigon Newport Corporation, which has organized many activities such as seminars to connect trade with domestic and foreign enterprises operating in Laos, and has deployed Lao cargo transportation vehicles at Vung Ang port. Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone highly appreciated the model of military enterprises participating in Vietnam's economic development.
Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone added: "Currently, Laos is also in the process of implementing an independent and self-reliant economic policy. Through this visit to Saigon New Port, we will learn and gain experience in port management, operation and logistics services, contributing to further development of import and export of goods. To achieve that, we hope that the Vietnamese Government and Ministry of National Defense will pay attention, monitor and direct the contents of cooperation to achieve efficiency, especially the effective exploitation of the Laos-Vietnam Vung Ang port between the Lao and Vietnamese governments as committed."
