The Organizing Committee awarded 4 A prizes, 25 B prizes, 27 C prizes, and 13 Encouragement prizes to works in many genres such as vocal music, instrumental music, theoretical works, etc. Notably, 2024 marks the first time within the framework of the Vietnam Music Awards that there is an additional award called Sol Vang.
Musician, Major General Nguyen Duc Trinh - Chairman of the Vietnam Musicians Association said: “If in the past, the Vietnam Music Awards organized by the Vietnam Musicians Association were mainly awarded to musicians who were members of the Association in the fields of composition, research, theory and performance, then expanding the Sol Vang Award means expanding the scope of participants. Accordingly, all Vietnamese citizens, currently living and working in the country, who have participated in the field of musical art creation, and whose musical products have been widely introduced to the public within a year, have the right to register to participate in the award.”
The Golden Sol Award considers genres such as live shows, live concerts, music videos, albums... of musicians, singers, soloists, ensembles, orchestras. Notably, the award accepts diversity in musical forms such as vocal music, solo, chamber music, symphony orchestra... At the same time, the award welcomes classical music works, chamber symphonies as well as folk instruments and popular music...
“The 2024 Vietnam Music Awards is the beginning of a new journey - a journey to expand the audience of the award. This expansion attracts many more musicians and music lovers to participate. This is also a way for members of the Vietnam Musicians' Association to update and get closer to life with the desire to preserve valuable cultural and artistic products to serve the public, serve the country and serve themselves. I think this innovation will encourage and motivate artists to explore and create, have high-quality works to serve the public and be able to integrate internationally,” said the Chairman of the Vietnam Musicians' Association.
The first year's Sol Vang Award Judging Council included People's Artist Quang Vinh (Head of the Judging Council), director Pham Viet Thanh, musician Quoc Trung, musician Huy Tuan, musician Giang Son. From 32 MVs, 13 albums, 14 live concerts that made it to the next round, the Judging Council decided to award 3 Sol Vang Awards to the following categories: MV "Nhat bai thien dia" by The Flob, album "Nhung con song ngoi tay" by musician Tran Duc Minh - singer Ha Tran, live concert "Co doi lan" by Duc Tri. The Sol Bac Award was given to MV "Loi dam" by Quyech, album "Bao mausoleum cua tet noi" by Vu.
At the same time, the Jury also honored Best Singer for singer Tung Duong and Dedicated Artist for saxophone artist Tran Manh Tuan.
During the 2024 Vietnam Music Awards Ceremony, those present at the Hai Phong City Theater as well as millions of viewers watching the program live on Vietnam Television could not help but be moved by the image of artist Tran Manh Tuan sitting on the stage receiving the Dedicated Artist Award. After many brain surgeries and stroke treatments, he had difficulty walking and talking. He shared with a trembling, intermittent voice: "At this moment, Tran Manh Tuan sitting here is really emotional, I don't know what else to say, I am so happy to be recognized by the Vietnam Musicians Association and loved by the public."
Singer Tung Duong said that the Sol Vang Award for Outstanding Singer gave him more inspiration and strong energy. This is an award of special significance to him, as the Judging Council are the most prestigious experts in Vietnam, which can be considered a measure of the depth of the profession - those who always want to contribute to art and are passionate about being creative and creating values.
“The expansion of the Vietnam Music Awards with the Golden Sol Award for our performing artists to have the opportunity to interact, perform, and be honored with musicians, makes me believe more in the development, correctness, and substance of Vietnamese music. I believe this will be an annual, fair, and prestigious award, contributing significantly to promoting the development of our country's authentic music industry,” the male singer shared.
Associate Professor, Doctor – Musician Do Hong Quan, Chairman of the Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts Associations, commented: The Golden Sol Award shows that the Vietnam Musicians Association is making moves to get closer to the audience and especially to the young musicians who are actively working in the music market. “The Vietnam Musicians Association can still maintain its academic character but can also recognize the youth and creativity of those outside the Association through professional awards. For a musician, in addition to the love of the audience, if they receive recognition from professionals, there is no greater happiness!”
Musician Huy Tuan believes that the Golden Sol Award is a very necessary innovation of the Vietnam Musicians Association when it comes to market observations, which here is leaning towards the entertainment music sector: “I feel very excited about this change from a formal professional association, very practical and close to the overall music picture. It will bring the Association closer to the market, artists outside the Association who receive honor from the professional association will have more motivation to create, this helps the overall development of a music market”.
