Gold prices today (August 20) on the world market fell to their lowest level in the past 5 months, in the context of China's economic difficulties and strong fluctuations in the financial market.

Domestically, at the end of the trading session on August 19, the price of 9999 gold bars at SJC Ho Chi Minh City was 67 million VND/tael (buy) and 67.7 million VND/tael (sell). SJC Hanoi listed at 67 million VND/tael (buy) and 67.72 million VND/tael (sell).

Growing concerns that the Federal Reserve may keep interest rates higher than initially expected in an effort to control inflation weighed on the gold market, with prices ending the week at their lowest in five months.

Meanwhile, US bond yields rose, hitting a 15-year high on Thursday, making gold less attractive.

Despite optimism that gold prices could regain their luster later this year, analysts warn the precious metal is likely to fall further next week.

The world's largest gold exchange-traded fund, SPDR Gold Trust, fell 6.93 tonnes in the session on August 17. The fund currently holds 887.50 tonnes, the lowest holding since January 2020.
