The number of measles cases in the province is on the rise. Since the beginning of the year, Vinh Phuc has recorded 52 measles cases, of which more than 90% of the cases were recorded as having not been vaccinated or had not received a booster dose of the vaccine.
At the Department of Intensive Care and Anti-Poison, the Provincial Maternity and Pediatrics Hospital, since the beginning of the month, many cases of severe measles with complications of pneumonia have been admitted, some with complications of respiratory failure requiring mechanical ventilation. Because the initial symptoms are cough and fever, most children are only diagnosed with measles when they are tired for a long time or when they develop a rash and are taken to a medical facility.
Since the beginning of the year, the Provincial Maternity and Pediatrics Hospital has treated 38 children with measles. Most of the children who came for examination and treatment were children who had not been vaccinated against measles or had not been fully vaccinated. Some cases had received 2 doses but had not received the booster shot.
According to medical experts, measles is one of the most contagious diseases in the world with a faster transmission rate than Covid-19, so strictly implementing the Ministry of Health's guidelines on patient classification, admission, treatment, and isolation is extremely important to effectively control cross-infection in hospitals.
Doctors recommend that in the face of the widespread spread of measles, if children have fever, cough, or rash, they should be isolated and taken to the doctor promptly. To prevent the disease, it is necessary to proactively vaccinate children from 9 months to 2 years old fully and on schedule, and to take children from 6-9 months and 1-10 years old to participate in the local measles vaccination campaign.
