Mr. Nguyen Hung Tinh, residing in Tan Thanh commune, Tan Hiep district (Kien Giang) is currently raising more than 30 pigs of various types. According to Mr. Tinh, local live pigs are being purchased by traders at a price of 7.6 - 7.8 million VND/quintal, while before Tet the price was only 6.6 - 6.8 million VND/quintal. "With this price, I earn 3-4 million VND for each quintal of pigs. The price of pigs has increased while the price of animal feed has decreased by at least 50,000 VND/bag, helping farmers make a good profit," said Mr. Tinh.

According to pig traders, the reason for the continued sharp increase in live pig prices is that after the Lunar New Year holiday, the supply of live pigs decreased sharply, and many farms and households sold out their products before Tet. Currently, the number of pigs sold is not enough to meet market demand, leading to price increases.

Not only did the price of live pigs increase, the price of breeding pigs (pigs) also increased from 1.5 million VND/pig (9 - 10kg/pig) to 2.2 - 2.3 million VND/pig.

According to statistics from the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine of Kien Giang province, the province currently has 280,000 pigs, an increase of nearly 18% over the same period in 2024.
