Nearly 40 art units participate in the 2023 National Traditional Instrument Solo and Ensemble Competition

The National Solo and Ensemble Competition of Traditional Musical Instruments - 2023 will take place from June 10 to 14 in Nha Trang city, Khanh Hoa province and from June 20 to 26 in Hoa Binh city, Hoa Binh province.

The competition was organized by the Department of Performing Arts under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, in coordination with the Vietnam Musicians Association, the Department of Culture and Sports of Khanh Hoa province, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Hoa Binh province and related units.

This is an art playground to honor and promote the values ​​of Vietnamese folk music , thereby contributing practically to the work of preserving and promoting the values ​​of national music .

The competition provides an opportunity for artists performing traditional musical instruments at art units, lecturers, students and students who are teaching and studying traditional musical instruments at art training institutions to demonstrate their talents, and at the same time exchange experiences and improve their professional qualifications.

The competition is also an opportunity for art units to draw experiences and lessons in management, training, nurturing and developing talents, thereby finding appropriate methods of operation to contribute to promoting the development of traditional music forms in the new era.

This year’s National Solo and Ensemble Competition for Traditional Musical Instruments attracted the participation of nearly 1,000 artists from 38 art units across the country. Accordingly, units registering to participate in both the ensemble and solo categories can structure a program lasting from 20 to 35 minutes.

The Contest content is divided into 4 Tables:

Table 1 "Solo" and Table 2 "Ensemble" are for traditional drama units (including: orchestras, music groups and soloists currently operating in traditional drama units such as: tuong, cheo, cai luong, don ca tai tu, dan ca drama...)

Table 3 "Solo" and Table 4 "Ensemble" are for singing, dancing, and music units; professional art training facilities (including: orchestras, ensembles, and soloists of traditional musical instruments currently operating in singing, dancing, and music units; professional art training facilities).

The competition's jury consists of prestigious and talented musicians, artists, researchers, and art managers who have made many contributions to the development of the performing arts industry, especially the field of performing traditional musical instruments.

The award structure of the Competition includes: First Prize, Second Prize, Third Prize awarded to performances with high quality content and art associated with the name of the performing unit, individual artist, group of artists meeting the criteria in the judging and awarding regulations. Artists and groups of artists participating in many performances in many programs at the Competition that all meet the awarding score will only receive 1 highest award.

The Organizing Committee will also award 1 Excellence Award (if any) to each creative component in the performances and programs, including: Orchestra conductor; Arranger; Main musician.
