Many ancient costume designers have 'moved', bringing the most beautiful ancient costumes to perform at the ancient capital of Hoa Lu (Ninh Binh).
Putting on traditional costumes to perform in historical sites is like reenacting history, helping to spread cultural significance. |
Re-enactment of Hoa Lu Dynasty's robes
On December 24, when many international tourists came to Ninh Binh to celebrate Christmas, a popular event called "Hoa Lu walking - Dai Co Viet y quan" took place at the relics of King Dinh Tien Hoang's temple and King Le Dai Hanh's temple, organized by Hoa Lu Legacy - a unit specializing in ancient costumes in coordination with volunteers. Each volunteer was selected to wear costumes from the Dinh and Tien Le dynasties such as: costumes of King Dinh Tien Hoang, King Le Dai Hanh, Queen Mother Duong Van Nga, soldiers and servants... with activities such as parading, taking photos, and interacting with tourists. Although it was just a simple program, just "walking" in order and class with typical ancient costumes. However, in the relic space of the Hoa Lu ancient capital complex, the ancient costumes became special, not only keeping pace but also blending in with the ancient space, evoking memories of a distant past. Ms. Trinh Thi Ly - representative of Hoa Lu Legacy said that Hoa Lu was the first capital of Vietnam under feudalism, existing in the period of 968 - 1010 with three consecutive dynasties: Dinh, Tien Le and Ly, before King Ly Cong Uan moved the capital to Thang Long. The following dynasties, Ly, Tran, Le and Nguyen, although no longer based in Hoa Lu, still renovated and built many architectural works such as temples, mausoleums, etc. With its long history and heritage system, the ancient capital of Hoa Lu is one of the favorite destinations of domestic and foreign tourists. Therefore, promoting traditional costumes in relic spaces will be effective in many aspects, especially honoring and contributing to bringing Vietnamese costumes closer to the public, building a unique image, imbued with national identity, towards building a Millennium Heritage City in the future. Ms. Ly also said that programs on traditional costumes also help young people understand and love traditional culture. “When we launched the program and recruited volunteers, many young people were excited to participate. Through each traditional costume, young people not only understand the way their ancestors dressed in ancient times, but also learn more about the cultural and historical values of the nation,” said Trinh Thi Ly. Not only is it an opportunity to promote and contribute to preserving and conserving heritage values, traditional costume performances and demonstrations are also an opportunity for designers to share research results and promote cooperation. At the same time, they review the traditional costume values of each period, to make appropriate adjustments, creating motivation to continue creating, bringing new designs to the public.![The program 'Hoa Lu walking tour - Dai Co Viet y quan' attracts the attention of visitors. dua-co-phuc-viet-ve-mien-di-san-1.jpg](https://www.vietnam.vn/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/dua-co-phuc-viet-ve-mien-di-san-1.jpg)
Ancient costumes in harmony with relics
Previously, at the 3rd Ninh Binh Festival in 2024 taking place in November 2024 with the theme "Heritage Flow", many ancient costumes designed by designers from all over the country gathered at the ancient capital of Hoa Lu to honor the Vietnamese soul. The festival was built like a vivid historical drama, combining the form of drama, music, dance and cinema with modern performance technology on a moving stage, to decode and open up the layers of sediment hidden deep underground about the brilliant quintessence of the ancient capital. Nui Thuy Park became an outdoor contemporary poetry exhibition space combined with the experience of tea drinking, poetry recitation, moon watching and listening to traditional music in folk style. There, tea artisans wearing ancient costumes were consulted by designer Nguyen Duc Loc from Y Van Hien, creating the characters' shapes. “Ancient costumes are a beautiful traditional culture that has been restored, researched and widely applied in modern life. We hope that our research and restoration of ancient costumes can help the public and international visitors understand and love Vietnamese cultural heritage more,” said designer Nguyen Duc Loc.![Ancient costumes are recreated at the 3rd Ninh Binh Festival. dua-co-phuc-viet-ve-mien-di-san-3.jpg](https://www.vietnam.vn/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/dua-co-phuc-viet-ve-mien-di-san-3.jpg)
Currently, in addition to the series of activities on traditional costumes, Ninh Binh also regularly holds activities to display and demonstrate fabric dyeing; exchange, connect, and introduce traditional costume tailoring models. Therefore, many units specializing in traditional costumes have "moved" to this locality with the desire to introduce and seek opportunities to spread traditional costumes more widely. This is also a model that has a positive impact on many aspects: Promoting traditional culture, boosting tourism, linking fashion business, photography, film studios...
