In the first days of the year of the Snake, tourists flocked to Ninh Binh for spring travel. During the 2025 Lunar New Year holiday, Ninh Binh province welcomed more than 700,000 visitors, with revenue reaching nearly 1,000 billion VND, making it one of the provinces with the highest tourism revenue in the country during the New Year holiday.
Located in the core area of Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex - World Cultural and Natural Heritage, Thung Nham Bird Garden is one of the destinations attracting tens of thousands of tourists to visit during spring.
Thung Nham Bird Garden is currently known as the largest natural bird garden in the North, with dozens of bird species with hundreds of individuals living together in a population.
Ms. Tran Thi Thanh Lan, representative of the management unit of Thung Nham bird garden (Ninh Hai commune, Hoa Lu city, Ninh Binh) shared that for many years, natural birds have flocked to Thung Nham to live and nest here. Thung Nham has become the home of the largest bird species in the Northern region today.
According to Ms. Lan, in previous years, in winter, flocks of birds would often migrate to the South to avoid the cold. However, in recent years, the weather in the North is no longer as cold as before, so flocks of birds "remain" in their main home in Thung Nham.
Birds do not migrate to avoid the cold, this is also a favorable condition for visitors to directly watch the wild birds with hundreds of thousands of birds at this special bird garden.
Seen from above, the entire Thung Nham bird garden area is surrounded by towering limestone mountains, below is a large lake with many trees. On the treetops growing at the foot of the mountain or under the lake, flocks of birds, storks, and herons perch, covered in a characteristic white or brown color.
"In recent years, wild birds have not migrated to the South. During the Tet holiday at the end of the year, the bird garden attracts tens of thousands of visitors to come here to watch wild birds. Many children are very excited when they see birds in the wild for the first time, bird nests in trees and baby birds lying in the nest waiting for their mother to return from foraging for food," Ms. Lan shared.
Ms. Bui Thi Xuyen (Thanh Hoa province) said that at the beginning of the new year, her family went to Ninh Binh for a spring trip. "After admiring the beautiful scenery of Trang An, my family went to Thung Nham bird garden so that the children could see the wild birds here with their own eyes. It's wonderful to have such beautiful scenery in the middle of the Trang An world heritage site."
The leader of Ninh Binh Province's Department of Tourism said that Thung Nham Bird Garden is currently one of the top attractive destinations in Ninh Binh. What is special is that this largest natural bird garden in the North is currently located in the core area of the world heritage site, so it is strictly protected. The bird species here are almost completely preserved.
"The bird garden is protected in its original state. In addition, the management board also plants many types of trees to attract birds to nest, stay and live here conveniently.
In addition, fish species in the lake where birds live are also protected and regularly supplemented, so that birds have a more diverse and abundant food source," said a representative of the Ninh Binh Department of Tourism.
In early spring, visitors to the bird garden, in addition to admiring the beautiful scenery and watching the birds with their own eyes, can also immerse themselves in spring art programs; explore the ancient Tet space with the calligrapher giving calligraphy, the bustling lion drum dance, the Earth God calling for luck and familiar images such as wrapping Chung cake and Day cake - traditional dishes indispensable during every Tet holiday.
