Celebrating 50 years of diplomatic relations
Prime Minister Mark Rutte has just paid an official visit to Vietnam for 2 days from November 1-2 at the invitation of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, in the context that the two countries are celebrating the 50th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte attend the high-level plenary session of the Green Economy Forum 2023.
This is the third time Prime Minister Mark Rutte has officially visited Vietnam. Previously, Mr. Mark Rutte had two visits to Vietnam in June 2014 and April 2019. Notably, during Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's visit to the Netherlands (October 2022), Prime Minister Mark Rutte affirmed: "The Netherlands is a European friend of Vietnam".
Therefore, accompanying Prime Minister Mark Rutte on this visit to Vietnam is a business delegation of 23 companies and organizations in the fields of high technology and digitalization. These are areas in which Dutch businesses are very strong.
The Netherlands is currently Vietnam's second largest trading partner in Europe and the largest investor of the European Union (EU) in Vietnam. Bilateral trade in 2022 reached 11.09 billion USD, up 32% compared to 2021. The Netherlands has about 400 investment projects in Vietnam, with a total capital of 13.5 billion USD.
Notably, among the hundreds of projects that Dutch enterprises have invested in Vietnam, the most notable are agricultural projects, typically a series of projects by De Hues, one of the world's leading agricultural corporations. These projects are part of the effort to build a Strategic Partnership for Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security between the two countries.
DHN joint venture imprint
De Heus Group is one of the first Dutch agricultural investors in Vietnam. In 2008, De Heus marked its presence by purchasing two factories in Binh Duong and Hai Phong. To date, De Heus has achieved impressive growth with more than 20 factories and a transit warehouse system spanning the North, Central and South regions.
De Heus is currently the largest enterprise in Vietnam in the independent market animal feed business in terms of scale, output and revenue.
Representatives of De Heus and Hung Nhon presented gifts to Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte.
During the investment process in Vietnam, De Heus “got together” with Hung Nhon Group through the DHN joint venture. This is considered the largest joint venture in the agricultural sector in Vietnam today. One of the typical projects of this joint venture is the DHN High-Tech Agricultural Complex that has been and is being built in the Central Highlands and Tay Ninh provinces.
The DHN joint venture aims to reach a capacity of about 10,000 great-grandfather and great-grandfather pigs in the Central Highlands by 2030; 200,000 commercial sows in the Southeast, South Central and Central Highlands regions; 58 million breeding chickens and 25 million broilers in Tay Ninh.
Expectations for a "transformation" of Vietnam's livestock industry
Evaluating his partner in Vietnam, Mr. Koen De Heus, General Director of De Heus Global, said that Hung Nhon is a professional enterprise in the field of livestock farming in particular and agriculture in general.
In particular, Hung Nhon's operating model is consistent with the development plan and business expansion with the goal of becoming a companion of livestock farmers and businesses in the livestock sector in Vietnam. De Heus wishes to cooperate with Hung Nhon to jointly realize these goals.
According to Mr. Vu Manh Hung, Chairman of the Board of Directors and General Director of Hung Nhon Group, De Heus is a world-leading enterprise in the agricultural sector with globally famous brands such as De Heus, Windmill, Koudijs... Therefore, cooperating with De Heus is an honor for Hung Nhon.
“ Cooperating with De Heus helps us receive a lot of support in advanced livestock technology from the Netherlands. From there, we can develop large-scale agricultural projects of Hung Nhon in the future ,” Mr. Vu Manh Hung shared.

Standing from the local perspective, the place receiving DHN projects, Chairman of Tay Ninh Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thanh Ngoc also highly appreciated the DHN joint venture.
“ The fact that the DHN Joint Venture started the project within just one month of signing the investment cooperation agreement shows that Hung Nhon and De Heus are reputable and capable enterprises. With the presence of DHN, the livestock industry in the localities where this joint venture is present will have a breakthrough development in the future, ” Mr. Nguyen Thanh Ngoc hopes.
