3rd grade math problem that makes many adults 'give up'

Below is a basic math problem for elementary school children. The problem requires filling in the blanks with the appropriate number, for all basic numbers.

In question a, it is easy to find the answer with the sequence of numbers: “1122, 2233, 3344″ => the next number is “4455″. However, question b does not follow the order of the letters as in the first question: “0, 1, 3, 14, 28, 45, ?”.
