Yen exchange rate trend forecast
The Japanese yen held at 157 yen per dollar and is set to fall nearly 1% this week as investors react to data showing domestic inflation slowed in April.
Japan's core inflation rate eased to 2.2% in April from 2.6% in March due to softer food inflation, in line with expectations. The headline rate also fell to 2.5% in April from 2.7% in March, the second straight monthly decline.
Overseas, the Yen came under pressure from a rising Dollar as stronger-than-expected US economic data raised concerns that the US Federal Reserve (FED) could delay a rate cut.
The latest FOMC minutes also showed policymakers were concerned about persistent inflation and some members expressed a willingness to tighten policy further if inflation rose.
On the other hand, markets are betting that the Bank of Japan (BoJ) will be slow to normalize monetary policy and raise interest rates, keeping the Yen attractive to trade.
