Promoting the advantages of winter crops in terms of commodity value as well as increasing farmers' income, Dong Trieu has focused on preparing good conditions for production early, thereby speeding up the planting progress. Up to this point, farmers in communes and wards in the area have implemented planting at 95% of the plan.
Binh Duong is the locality that grows the most winter crops in Dong Trieu City with an area of 226 hectares, of which Atlantic potatoes are the main crop accounting for 155 hectares. This crop has been maintained and developed stably by the commune for more than ten years in the annual winter crop, thanks to the association, stable product consumption and application of synchronous mechanization to reduce input production costs. Currently, Binh Duong farmers are actively preparing the land to grow Atlantic potatoes. In other areas, farmers also grow other winter crops to diversify products.

According to the 2024 winter crop production plan assigned by the Provincial People's Committee, Dong Trieu City will plant 1,381.5 hectares. On that basis, Dong Trieu City focuses on developing and expanding crops with high economic value to compensate for the damage caused by storm No. 3 to the people. Recently, the locality received 1,600 kg of HN88 glutinous corn seeds supported by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development from the national reserve to plant this winter crop. Up to now, the Economic Department of Dong Trieu City has distributed all the HN88 glutinous corn seeds to farmers in the communes and wards that initially registered for planting.
Mr. Tran Duc Tu, Party cell secretary, Head of Trai Loc village, An Sinh commune, said: The commune's winter crop area is 95 hectares, of which Trai Loc village alone accounts for 1/3. Therefore, as soon as receiving the commune's plan, the village management board also coordinated with departments, branches, and organizations to propagate and mobilize people to actively produce winter crops to ensure income for the people, especially recently with support for HN88 glutinous corn variety, people have registered and have so far planted 7.4 hectares of corn. The remaining nearly 30 hectares of people in the area focus on growing jicama, single tubers, and some other vegetables to ensure income as well as compensate for the damage caused by storm No. 3 that occurred in early September.

After completing the 2024 winter crop planting plan, the departments and specialized units of Dong Trieu City will closely monitor the fields to grasp the situation and coordinate with communes and wards to direct people to care for and prevent pests and diseases so that crops grow and develop stably. According to statistics from the City Economic Department, on average, 1 hectare of winter crops is bringing in an income of 150 to 200 million VND for Dong Trieu farmers.
