Immediately after its establishment, the new Party Committees need to quickly complete their apparatus and strengthen their staff and Party members. Dong Trieu has achieved remarkable achievements such as: Economic growth rate in the period of 2021 - 2023 reached 13.6%. Average income per capita in 2023 reached more than 163 million VND/person/year, 1.6 times higher than the national average. The economic structure shifted in a positive direction with the proportion of industry - construction accounting for 65.7%, services accounting for 29%, agriculture accounting for only 5.4%. These are truly impressive numbers and are proof of the sustainable development of the locality.
Dong Trieu City Secretary Nguyen Van Cong shared that the official establishment of Dong Trieu City is an important historical milestone, a great step forward, opening a new era of development. The city focused on resolving administrative procedures related to merging communes and wards and changing the name of the organizational model, especially procedures related to people, land, and policies.
The place name Dong Trieu appeared in the mid-14th century, over 700 years ago, when the 7th king of the Tran Dynasty, Tran Du Tong, changed the name of Yen Sinh to Dong Trieu, belonging to Dong Trieu District. In October 1961, Dong Trieu belonged to Hong Quang Special Zone. On October 30, 1963, when Hong Quang Special Zone and Hai Ninh Province were merged into Quang Ninh Province, Dong Trieu officially became a district-level unit of Quang Ninh Province.
Through the process of formation and development, Dong Trieu was under the direct control of many different superior administrative units and its administrative boundaries also changed a lot, but the name Dong Trieu remained almost unchanged and has long been in the history of the country. This is a strategically important area in terms of politics, economy and military, the homeland of the Tran Dynasty, where King Buddha Tran Nhan Tong practiced and became a Buddha, the holy land of the Truc Lam Zen sect.
