The above information was given at the Dong Thap province press conference on August 28.
Mr. Bui Quy Khiem - Chief of Office of the Department of Education and Training of Dong Thap province - said that the whole province is currently lacking more than 1,300 teachers at all levels, with the most shortage being more than 600 teachers at primary and preschool levels.
"Currently, units are recruiting teachers for the new school year. The reason for the shortage of teachers is due to the requirement for teachers to teach integrated subjects. There are specific subjects such as music and fine arts that do not have a source to recruit.
"The immediate solution is to continue to transfer teachers, second teachers, and re-contract retired teachers. In addition, ordering teacher training according to recruitment needs is currently stuck in regulations and cannot be implemented," said Mr. Khiem.
Providing more information at the conference, Mr. Nguyen Cong Minh - Deputy Chief of Office of Dong Thap Provincial People's Committee - said that the plan to order teacher training has been proposed but has not been implemented.
In the coming time, the Department of Education and Training will continue to research and propose reasonable solutions to submit to the Provincial People's Committee according to regulations.
"The issue of tuition fees for the 2024-2025 school year is being reviewed and will be submitted to the Provincial People's Council for consideration and approval. If the proposal to exempt tuition fees is approved at the meeting in early October, preschool students will be exempted from tuition fees, 50% tuition reduction for secondary school students and will be exempted from tuition fees when resources allow," said Mr. Minh.
