On the morning of March 23, the People's Committee of Khanh Vinh Yen commune, Can Loc district solemnly held a ceremony to receive the certificate of ranking Da Coc temple as a provincial historical and cultural relic.
Da Coc Temple, in Kieu Moc village, Khanh Vinh Yen commune, was built around the end of the 18th century and the beginning of the 19th century. Da Coc Temple was built by the people to worship the God of the Land - the guardian angel who blesses the people here with bountiful harvests and a prosperous and comfortable life. Kieu Moc village under the Nguyen Dynasty was called Da Coc village, Dong Lam commune, Can Loc district, Ha Tinh province. Since ancient times, people here have mainly lived on land, reclaiming land and cultivating crops to make a living. In the early days of land clearing, people here mainly lived on agriculture, relying on land for cultivation, so the belief in worshiping the God of the Land was formed in their spiritual life, praying for the God to bless them with bountiful harvests and favorable climate. Da Coc Temple was built to worship the God of the Land in that context.
Over time, the temple was damaged so the people restored and rebuilt a wooden building with tiled roof. After the August Revolution and during the land reform movement, the temple was almost completely damaged, only retaining a royal decree from the Nguyen Dynasty and some artifacts such as royal coffins and vases. In 2000, according to the wishes of the Party Committee, the government and the people, the temple was restored and embellished by social funds; and by 2020, some items were restored as they are today.
Da Coc Temple is a small temple, although recently renovated and embellished, it still retains its own ancient features. The main door faces North with a Nhat-shaped architecture. The temple is located on a fairly spacious relic site of more than 500m2, surrounded by a prosperous, peaceful countryside. Although surrounded by a residential area, the temple still retains its quiet, solemn and peaceful features.
Da Coc Temple in the history of the locality is also the place that witnessed many important historical events. During the resistance war against the French, Da Coc Temple was the place to hide documents and organize secret meetings of the Viet Minh. After the success of the August Revolution, the temple became the place to organize popular education sessions of the village. During the resistance war against the US, this place was the gathering place of the village's youth before leaving for the task of protecting the fatherland.
Having gone through many stages, many changes, ups and downs of history, the temple is still protected by the people of Kieu Moc village with incense and preserved many valuable artifacts such as Nguyen Dynasty royal decrees, ancient vases, ... and many good customs. These are valuable documents for further research on the history of Ha Tinh under the Nguyen Dynasty, providing more information about the village, the spiritual and cultural activities of the people of Kieu Moc in particular, and Khanh Vinh Yen commune in general.
With its historical, cultural and scientific values, Da Coc Temple has been ranked as a provincial historical and cultural relic by the Provincial People's Committee.
