In July 2002, the public in England was shocked when they heard that a couple living in Watford town had won a lottery prize worth 1 million pounds (equivalent to more than 31 billion VND). Until now, many people are still surprised when the story after the couple's lottery win has once again become "hot" again.

It is known that Chris and Julie Jeffery only rewarded themselves with a trip after winning the lottery. In addition, they maintain their simple lifestyle and do not spend lavishly. They even live in a normal house and have not moved to a villa.

Julie continued to work as a cook at Garston Fire Station until 2017, when her husband retired, but she still endured the heat every day in the kitchen.

In 2022, the couple celebrated the two-decade milestone since their lottery win by throwing a party for staff and volunteers at the Watford Women's Centre (WWC).

Chris and Julie also have a list of charities they want to help.

Julie says: "It's hard to believe it's been 20 years since our lottery win, it's been an amazing journey. Since winning, I've written so many checks to give to those closest to me. It's been a wonderful feeling to wake up every morning knowing I don't have to worry about money."

According to Julie, what makes her and her husband happier is that they help many people. They built a garden at the national memorial, organized a Christmas party for people at the Watford women's center, ...

"Many people imagined we would be sitting on a tropical beach drinking wine to celebrate winning the lottery. But they were surprised because in reality, we just had a small celebration party at the fire station, with our colleagues having a nice meal," said Chris.
